Spent 3 nights here with my girlfriend to celebrate a late vacation. We had a 2 person apartment on the second floor. Apartment was very clean, of good size and well equipped. Shower w/ toilet is very nice, bedroom and beds are good as well. We had a view on pastures as far as we could see with Texel sheep walking around, very nice view.
Breakfast was continental and very good.
Restaurant is highly recommended. 35€ for a three course meal. Very good food, well cooked, great service and wines to go with all dishes.
The appartment itself is really good. We had room nr 18 and it is quite big. It has a large living/kitchen space with a sofa, a table with two chairs and a kitchen with a cooker, a fridge, senseo and kettle. There is a big TV with a DVD-player. At the reception there are some free films. It was very clean by the way. The bedroom wasn't very big, the door couldn't be closed because the bed was in the way. And that was the big minus: the bed. The matrasses were really bad, they were extremely soft. When I told the lady at reception when checking out she acted surprised and stated the beds were new, but if this is really the case, I would say: return them and get your money back! The bathroom was good, small but everything was there, and again, very clean.
So, why good and not excellent? At first glance it seems a very nice appartment and it is. But in daylight, you can see the wallpaper is peeling, the doors are old and faded and the tiles in the kitchen have been tiled over the old tiles. This is not bad at all, and the appartment is good, but it could be excellent with a little bit more love and attention, paint and taste!
Although we only stayed one night at this great accommodation, we really enjoyed staying in a nice little apartment instead of a hotel or B&B. This small complex is located across from a picturesque farm with grazing sheep and a horse. . . and right next to a small forest. . . very quiet and peaceful.
Our unit, #17 on the second floor, looked over the outdoor seating of the restaurant with the farm beyond. The apartment itself has a completely separate bedroom and full bathroom. The living, dining and kitchen areas occupy one large room and there was a small terrace with a table and 2 chairs. The terrace even has a retractable awning. In the living area there is a contemporary couch and chair of perhaps leather. In the dining area, there is an ample table with 2 comfortable chairs. The small kitchen area is equiped with a 4 burner gas stove, a small fridge, coffee/tea makers and all the equipment needed for cooking, serving and eating simple meals. The apartment was sparkeling clean and fresh, and the furnishing were new/well maintained and very comfortable. . . including the beds. The linens/towels were very clean and of good quality.
We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant on the night of our stay. We had the roasted duck breast and sea bass. Both meals were prepared well and were delicious. Although there was not much choice of wines by the glass, my Merlot was good with the duck. The wine glasses and furnishings in the dining room were of a very high quality and the ambiance pleasant. Our waiter was professional and friendly. . . as was the reception staff (Inga).
The owners have made the most of these apartments. There are the outside steps of a motel, so if you have difficulty with steps, request an apartment on the ground floor. There is a play ground for children.
I would have rated this property higher if they had inside steps or an elevator to the 2nd floor apartments. Some ammenities such as small bottles of shampoo, some soap. . . and salt and pepper in the kitchen would have been nice also.
Let me start by saying that we have been staying here several times now, when visiting the island of Texel. So clearly we are overall satisfactied with the accomodation ;-)
Bos en Duin is located on the outskirts of a forrest, with beach and town at biking distances. Beautiful and quiet surroundings, with nearby plenty of places for eating, kids entertainment and ofcourse walking/biking/beach activities. But as basically everywhere on the island, you pay premium prices for that location.
The complex is divided in a new appartment block and the older appartments, adjacent to the main building and its restaurant. We have stayed in both, and while the older ones are cheaper, often smaller, smoking is (i think) allowed in them, as are pets and with more clear wear and tear, it is not all worse, since some of the kitchens in it are better equiped than those of the new appartments.
Nevertheless we prefer the new building appartments. It's a bit more remote, a smaller complex and therefore quieter, bigger and therefore more pleasant when you are with more than 2 persons. However, considering the premium price, Bos & Duin could absolutely do with an appartment upgrade. Some new appartments have a ridiculously small ktchenette, the beds/pillows (carry your own!) can be rather uncomfy, bedrooms could be nicer soft furnished and not all have a washing machine.
But apart from that, overall it is a pleasant stay. The service is very good, they have a nice restaurant, although a tat overpriced for the food served, enough to do for kids, bike renting etc.
And best of all is the location. You are at biking distance from everything you need, including the biggest town in Texel (Den Burg).
All the ingredients for a relaxing and fun-filled holiday in Texel.
This is a hotel with apartments, on the border of meadows and the dunes. From our balcony, we had an view over the sheep in the meadow.
The apartments are quite large, with a separate bed room. There's a kitchen in the living room. The bath room is quite beautiful.
The breakfast was straightforward, but good quality.
The staff was friendly.
Conclusion: "Good", so somewhere between Average and Very Good.
