Stayed for seven days at this hotel - From arrival to departure, the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and accommodating. The rooms were spacious, clean and fully equipped with everything required. The hotel itself has some growing pains to overcome, including leaky skylights and windows on the mail lobby level and stairways. The breakfasts were fresh, with plenty of selection. The pool and spa area were large, clean and comfortable. We went the last week of October and the hotel was only about 25% full, so the dining and spa areas were not busy at all and we had our room upgraded to Ocean view at no additional charge. We rented a car and did day trips around the island each day and within our seven days saw most of the beautiful island and had some incredibly memorable experiences. It's truly beautiful a place. We will return to the island, and would consider staying at this same Hotel based on our experience.
The location is superb, the staff , pool and restaurant were wonderful and staff went out of their way to satisfy the guests but construction wise it was a nightmare. There was water dripping on floors and coming thru ceiling light switches. Our room was invaded by ants coming thru the main door, slider and bed area. We eventually had to move our room.
My advice would be to finish the construction before allowing guests to check in.
We spent 9 nights in this hotel, which takes place at very good location - supermaket just across the street, great fish restaurant few minutes of walking, pleasant starting point for trip and also beautiful beach just in front of the hotel (unfortunately due to strong waves not recommended to swim there). Room are nice, clean and comfortable, BUT book only waterfront side. Rooms with balcony to the street are very noise and you need to keep whole day doors closed because even at the night there is traffic jam. Area around hotel is not ready, also path to the beach is through building area. Breakfast was great, unfortunately service was active just inside and if you want to sit on beautiful terrace with great view, you need to catch some waiter and tell him you want to have table ready. Overall service was at junior level obviously without some experienced manager. Inside pool is very warm, spacious and whole Spa area is very nice. We would appreciate some corner for children with toys, but looks that hotel follows mainly adults.
We would definitely stay here again!
We drove into the area and were a bit disappointed as the waterfront area of Ribiera Grande is not particularly nice (though cute if you walk up into town a bit). We were very happy when we entered the hotel and found it a genuine oasis. It's an easy walk to a grocery store across the street and numerous restaurants and shopping nearby.
The service at the front desk, restaurant, bar, and lounge was outstanding throughout our stay. Friendly, helpful, great English and willing to allow us to struggle with our Portuguese when we wanted to! :)
The room is spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was large and well stocked. And the views toward the ocean are truly spectacular! The rest of the hotel is equally gorgeous, particularly both the upper outdoor pool area, and the lower spa/pool area. The latter was great for when the weather was uncooperative. The gym is limited in equipment but there is enough that you can continue to get in some exercise while staying here.
The restaurant was the only disappointment as the dishes were really hit and miss, and the included breakfast buffet was particularly uninspired. The lounge food (particularly pizza) was the actual food standout. Being a 5 star the prices for dinner are on the high side for the area, and the wine markups were more than we had seen most places across the islands. We recommend grabbing a bottle from the Continente across the street and enjoying it in the room, games room, or poolside.
Despite some small shortcomings mentioned in other reviews I liked the hotel. Rooms are spacious and have all you need. Smell in the hotel was very nice, everything was clean, staff polite and helpful.
My favourite place was outside swimming pool with not heated water. It was so nice to have morning swim in fresh water or in evening, after day of traveling, refresh for dinner.
My room has no ocean view but street or mountains, some people said. Maybe I didn't have nice sunset view but I had sunrise and morning sunshine what I love too.
Breakfast offered variety of food and good coffee as well. However, we should wait sometimes as there only one coffee machine making good espresso but it worth it.
I had one dinner at hotel's restaurant. Food was good but no more.
Spontaneously I asked for massage just half an hour before spa should close and it was provided in professional manner.
The location of the hotel just perfect. It was easy to reach any part of the island.
I would like to stay here again if I got a chance to visit st.Miguel again.
Special thanks to receptionists, who provided good advice on places to visit.
