We love the Wellington. The staff is always warm and inviting and friendly. The rooms are so spacious, comfortable and useful that it’s no question where we will stay anytime we come to Newport in the future. We love the indoor and outdoor pool, we love the icemaker in our full-size refrigerator, we always use the fireplace, and our outside decks, and we love the in room washer and dryer and having a separate bedroom and bathroom as an option when we want two baths. Which is very useful and makes our stay more enjoyable. We just love it. Very accessible walkable location from town and it’s quiet. The rooms are not the most updated, but the somewhat dated decor does not take away from the stay. In fact it’s absolutely fine. Some units are better than others- they are all different on what they’ve had done, the layouts differ. But they are all quite spacious and quite comfortable. One note: They need to upgrade their mattresses. Their beds are hit and miss depending on which unit you get. Nothing makes me more angry than an uncomfortable mattress when I’m staying in a hotel. That is the only negative criticism that I have about the entire place and that’s saying a lot.
Walking distance to downtown hotspots. Staff is friendly and attentive. Units are large and comfortable. Great views of the harbor including walkway to park next to the resort. The only downside was the pool was closed due to COVID-19
This is a hard one to review because of the balanced positives and negatives. The location is good because there is a 24-hour convenience store 3 min-walk away with water milk bread sandwiches fruit. Bowen’s wharf is about 17 min walk away; there are a few other Resteraunt options before that. There is no swimmable beach within walking distance.
We had a 2-bed condo with AMAZING view of the harbor from our little balcony. Watching sunset over the sailboats with the breeze was one of the highlights of my trip. But the furnishings were so old and musty. Lots of things broken or malfunctioning: cabinets, drawers, windows, toilet, jacuzzi. The air conditioner sounding like a thunder storm. There was a musty smell in the living room, kitchen, 2nd bedroom. I was pretty eeked out. My husband and 5-yr old were not bothered by the smell like I was.
The size of the apartment was generous for family with small kids. The closet space was excellent. The king bed was super comfy.
Pool area was nice.
My family and I have a timeshare here and have visited for the last 30 years in August. The units are well maintained and supply you with all the basics, no stove but there is a hot plate and microwave. Two pools make this a great spot to hang with the kids. Walk to town, the playground, bike to the beach, and you’ll only have to use your car once to bring back groceries or twice if you want to drive up to do a mansion tour. We’re on our third generation at this place and always enjoy the visit.
Got this timeshare unit for a weeklong vacation with another couple at a decent price (about 1/2 of the going rate). We had looked at other condos and homes to rent but they were either too far away, a lot more expensive or both. Happened upon this ground floor unit that was on the waterfront/bay. We were there in September so the rates are typically lower after Labor Day.
We had a 2-bedroom suite. Each had their own bathroom - one was considerable smaller but we managed. The other bedroom was off of a large living room and kitchen. Laundry was right there in the room, which was convenient since we were there for a full 7 days.
The other couple was a little concerned about the room possibly being updated, but it appeared our room had gotten a fairly recent remodel. Nothing fancy to the place - carpeted in most areas except for the kitchen area and baths.
I think the best think about the complex was the location. Not only on the water, but about 1/2 mile walk to "downtown Newport". These units are right on Thames St, so just head into town and there are plenty of shops and restaurants. BUT - the shops and restaurants kind of end at this complex - so you don't get that much traffic.
Some of the other nearby attractions require a drive - either your own vehicle or Uber/Lyft.
One note - we had our rather large/tall Toyota Sequoia and it would not fit under the roof of the carports right near our unit. Due to the time of our visit, we were able to get a parking spot nearby, but there were only about 4 to choose from. If you don't get one of these, it's a bit of a walk once you park your vehicle.
Free WiFi - we brought our Amazon Firestick, plugged it in and watched a movie or 2. They also have a selection of DVDs at the office area that you can check out for free.
We did NOT use the pool so can't comment on that.
