I stayed here for 3 nights and it was not a nice experience, I did not feel safe, on my first evening here the police were in the lobby I tried to overhear the conversation and all I could here was something about something trying to get in, on my 2nd morning upon leaving a glass panel has been smashed out the front of the hostel not good.... I'm wondering if it's been fixed yet I guess I will see in the morning.
Rooms do have locks on them which is comforting but I am in a room for 4 and you could t swing a cat in it, the floor is covered with other people things as I was last in so I'm having to sleep with it on my bunk, I have some kind of sheet to sleep under, the lining was clean to be fair. Everything else is really dated, the sofas for example I think they are older then me, the carpets however are really clean.
It's a real shame about the location as your in walking distance to the piers and coach station but then there is lots of homeless people looting around I don't dare go out after sunshine hours.
I didn't find the staff very friendly to me, but it's weird as I've seen them on a few occasions being super friendly to other people, they didn't tell me where the showers were or fire escapes maybe they don't like the British cause they seem lovely to other people. I'm hoping as I go on my travels the hostels get better.
Wi FI only works in communal areas your lose it once you go in your room.
I also just saw a mice running around in the communal room as I was watching this GOD HELP ME
Saw a mouse in my room. Mouse trap actually in the room so they don't hide this fact. Bathrooms disgusting really didn't want to take my socks off and stand in the bath. One shower for about 10 rooms. No towels and the rooms smell as they're so small and muggy. Paid a few more dollars for music city hostel a few blocks away which was so much cosier and comfier with your own bathroom. Honestly just pay abit more to go somewhere else it's really not worth it. Dreaded going back every night
I have traveled to most corners of the world and stayed in some very basic places (even traveled for 17 hours on a packed night bus) but this is by far the worst place I have ever had to stay in.
The place was extremely dirty. On day two I found a mouse under the bed.
The location is fine, as it is close to public transport, shops and restaurants, but it is among some of the more dangerous streets in San Fran. We were approached by locals, noticing we were tourists, and told to avoid certain streets around. Due to this we had to take longer routes to places and felt unsafe as one wrong turn and you become very unwelcome on a bad street.
Now onto the main issue - the staff. I have never been treated so disgracefully in my life. We booked this stay through booking.com but when we arrived (after a 14 hour plane journey) the hostel had lost our reservation. Instead of trying to rectify this they proceeded to blame us, acting like we had cancelled it and would not be entitled to a room for the 4 nights we booked. We called booking.com who confirmed it was the hostels at fault (booking.com even spoke with the hostel manager). We were ignored for a significant about of time in the lobby not knowing if we were getting a room or not and we were talked to in a horrible manner. I must note there was a festival on that weekend and so we could not find anywhere else, within our budget, to book instead - which we did try to do.
They proceeded to curse at us, calling us awful words, for wanting to speak to a manager and told us we had an attitude for expecting a room from them - a room we booked and they lost. The manager was less rude and provided a solution but still was not apologetic for the issue in question. They eventually (after roughly 3 hours in the lobby at this stage) gave us a room and were told we were lucky to have got a room - ridiculous statement.
As we were checking out we got talking to a distressed looking Aussie in the common room and she told us the same thing happened to her - they were also being equally as rude.
DO NOT stay here! Ever!! Honestly I have stayed in hostels for $5 a night with mold on the walls and they were a dream vacation compared to this disgrace of an establishment. Far too expensive for what you get.
The whole hostel is poorly kept and falling to pieces. The bathrooms are mouldy and continuously clog and flood everywhere resulting in most guests using the communal bathrooms - which are horrible with freezing cold water.
"Breakfast included" consists of a jug of pancake batter.
Old towels are provided at a $3 charge.
The bedrooms just about fit four beds in them with very poor ventilation.
Dirty, stained sheets are provided at check in where you must then make your own bed.
If you care about hygiene, do not stay here.
We arrived at this terrible hostel in San Francisco totally unaware of the existence of MICE in rooms. The first thing that called our attention was the big sign in the room saying "Absolutely not food allowed in rooms". We could not imagine the NIGHTMARE of nights that were about to follow... Can you imagine in the middle of the night awakening because you can hear a mouse chewing your stuff? That's exactly what we went through. I would NEVER recommend this hostel to anyone. What's more, I personally think they should shut it down and do something with this huge problem they have.
