We stayed at the movie world in spiez for 2 nights. The location is great! There is a migros and migros restaurant right next to it. It takes 2-3 mins to walk to the train station. I think this is a family owned facility. Either way, staff is very friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to help make your stay pleasant. We had to leave our suitcases at the hotel and the staff was fine with it. Additionally, they even gave us lunch bags to take with us as we had to catch the train very early. The concept and setting is very interesting. There is literally a movie theater on the first floor. The room is nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. We highly recommend the hotel if anyone would want to stay in Spiez!
We spent a week at movie world. It is an exceptional hotel within a small cinema complex, quite unique actually !
The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming despite the language barrier, in fact we all got on very well. They genuinely seemed to care for their guests.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, we had two adjoining rooms and the hosts kept them well stocked with tea and coffee daily.
The breakfast was excellent served in a lovely room overlooking Lake Thun, there was an outside terrace for eating outside on warmer days.
The hotel is situated a few steps from the train station and a reasonably short walk down to the castle, church and lakeside.
This family run hotel is highly recommended and we would not hesitate to stay there again.
Stayed at the Movie World in Spiez during early June whilst on holiday in Switzerland for a week. It was our first time and a friend had arranged the hotel beforehand.
Arrived late evening by train from Basel and made our way over to the hotel, which is only a 1 minute walk from the railway station! It's a strange setup being a cinema, with rooms attached so wasn't too sure what to expect. However, when we were shown our room it was perfect. Two twin beds, en suite bathroom and a balcony as well overlooking the lake.
Breakfast was also included in our package and we made full use of this everyday, even sitting out on the deck when the weather was exceptionally good.
We didn't spend a lot of time in the room (had to make the most of the good weather), but we had no complaints about any of the facilities.
I'd highly recommend staying here if in Spiez, we will definitely be back.
Actually, it's a very pleasant hotel, with big, clean rooms (mine was, at any rate), only a hundred or so yards from the station, run by happy, straightforward, friendly people, and serving an excellent breakfast in a room with a fabulous view out over Spiez's tiny harbour to the far side of the lake. Not expensive, anyway by Swiss standards.
The reason for the name is that there's a cinema down in the basement. At the time of my own visit, it was showing something called ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER ("President by day, vampire-hunter by night. Grisly horror with added value"), which I didn't see so I can't report on.
The rooms have Hollywood-inspired names. Mine was called "Mystery".
There's a lift, but it's a bit peculiar. Listen very carefully and be sure to remember when the girl tells you what button(s) to push to go where.
