Beautiful and unusual modern guest house in owner's (Craig) large house. Made very welcome by Craig who came out to greet and welcome us. Gorgeous room on first floor. (Dormer room, so not full windows for what were lovely views over the fields, and sloping ceiling over the (huge super king very comfy) bed, so banged our heads a couple of times till we learned!!) Huge room though, beautifully furnished with a sofa for watching tv. Two enormous built-in wardrobes. Large modern en-suite shower room. Fantastic breakfast next day! Would definitely recommend!
Service
Craig was most welcoming and ensured good hospitality and a comfortable stay. The cooked breakfast was well prepared and the helpings were good.
The Rooms
We stayed as a family and occupied both rooms which are located upstairs and are well appointed as are the en suites. The Beds are very comfortable and the rooms were very clean.
Location & amenities
The House is located in lovely rolling countryside, approximately a 15 minute drive from St Andrews. The house is relatively new and well furnished. Ample off street parking is available. There are a number of surrounding villages in which are located good pubs and eating places.
What we liked
Least - nothing really, apart from a very minor comment that in the Double en suite there was no place to lay toiletries.
Best - the welcoming and helpful manner of the host.
Nothing short of exceptional!! Craig is an excellent host - nothing is too much trouble! We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. Excellent room, beautiful wooden furniture, power shower and fresh coffee. Feels more like a 5* hotel than a B and B - would definitely recommend and revisit if back in Scotland! Anna and Leo
We found this guest house via booking.com. The guest house is excellent. The owners, Craig and Morag, are lovely and friendly people with great hospitality. The guest house has 2 rooms (I think!). We were in the room with the view of the back garden (when you go towards the stairs, to the right). Craig was waiting for us when we arrived and he came out to welcome us and helped us with the luggage. At the arrival, Morag gave us freshly baked cake which was delicious.
The first night, Craig suggested us to go to Elie beach which is about 20 minutes drive from the guest house. It is a very beautiful beach with pubs so you can sit in front of the beach and enjoy the view or if you have kids, they can enjoy playing in the beach.
We had a delicious cooked breakfast next day. We went to Falkland to visit the Falkland Palace. It is a beautiful historical Palace. You can see the oldest tennis court of the world as well in this Palace.
For the second day, I had the poach haddock for the breakfast as Craig suggested which was fantastic. I highly recommend to try it!
The guest house has a very good free wifi if you need.
There is only one concern for me in terms of the safety! The room that we were was sloped ceiling and the position of the bed is in a way that if you want to pass the bed, you have to bend. This is more difficult during the night if you want to use the toilet as you may hit your head to the ceiling. I think sticking some safety signs which are illuminated in dark would help the situation.
I highly recommend this guest house.
This was a lucky find! Thank you Booking.com. Craig was waiting for us and came out in the rain to help with luggage. He gave us each a room! King beds! flowers! spacious! comfortable! sparkling clean! On top of that we had a sitting room adjoining our rooms. He gave us an excellent dining idea and I felt like I was in a movie the setting was so beautiful. After a day at St. Andrews touring, we were thrilled to have this wonderful home to come to. The breakfast was cooked to order. Food, food and more food and all delicious. You will be missing a great treat if you miss The Guest House at Kames. One slight problem if you don't have GPS is that it is hard to find.
