We spent two nights at the Angel, because Hindon is easily accessible to Salisbury, Stourhead and other popular places. It doesn't enjoy the reputation of the nearby Lamb, but it provides a more than acceptable option. Both of our rooms were comfortable and well-appointed, but we did need to climb stairs to get to them. Furthermore the railing on the stairs was uncomfortably low for anyone of medium height and beyond.
The en suite bathrooms may be a challenge for older guests who prefer a shower to a tub. In my room, although there was a shower attachment to the tub, there was no protective glass to prevent water from spilling over.
However, we did encounter several members of a friendly and welcoming staff. There was an excellent variety of cooked-to-order choices for breakfast, although service was a little slow in the morning. For our evening meals we sampled both the bar, where the fish and chips were beautifully prepared, and the restaurant where the menu was more ambitious and the food well above pub level.
Bottom line: a good stay and a solid alternative to the more expensive and more pretentious Lamb.
I stayed here for work, but also had Sunday lunch there, which was excellent with great service too.
The room was very comfortable, spacious and quiet, whilst the breakfast was perfect. My first stay here, but I shall definitely be booking again and I highly recommend it, be it for food, drinks or accommodation
Lovely traditional English pub! Comfortable room which fulfilled all our needs. We had a tasty snack lunch which included home made pizza....delicious! Our evening meal was well prepared and my wife had grilled mackerel and I had a sirloin steak. Both superb and very competitively priced! Breakfast was equally good!
Stopped here on way to Somerset. A very warm welcome on arrival after a long drive. The bar area is warm and welcoming with a relaxed atmosphere. The room comfortable and perfect for what we needed. The menu for evening meal was interesting and varied and the food was exceptional, beautifully presented and delicious. The breakfast menu had fantastic choices and cooked to order, very tasty indeed!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return.
Lovely people , couldnt do enough, very friendly. Alex the dog was gorgeous. Room was very clean, although bathroom a little dated. Only problem was with the tea making facilities which were on the windowsill so first thing in the morning you had to open curtains (overlooking main road) probably not a pretty sight!!!! to make the tea. Maybe if TV was on wall you could then have the kettle etc on the chest of drawers. Saying that it wasnt too big a deal. Ate in the restaurant on site and the food was beautiful - breakfast was same quality. Would definitely stay there again if we are in Wiltshire.
