My family had a relaxing stay during October 15th-18th at Kabbe holidays. If you want to get away from the hustle & buzzle of bangalore, in a serene and calm homestay then this is the place to be! Dilip Sir & Vidya Mam are lovely hosts and make your family feel at home.
Food: Food is really delicious. Infact you can feel it in every meal of the day including desserts. I would rate it as exceptional for both taste and portions. They usually only serve chicken in non-veg as it's acceptable to most guests.
Stay: There are total of 4 cottages/rooms. The deluxe rooms are smaller one where we stayed and can accommodate a family of max 5. It has a futon bed to accommodate kids. The room had white linens and restroom is really clean.
Explore: Chelavara waterfalls is 2 kms away. There is parking space and a point where it's safe for families to get into water. Dilip sir can take you for a plantation walk and one of the interesting things is to get into a natural stream within his estate. The forest checkpost is less than a km away where you can start your trek to either Kabbe hillds or Balekund or a viewpoint. Kabbe hill is a difficult trek and not recommended for families with kids below 10 years.
We loved the relaxing atmosphere so much that we extended our stay by one more night.
We stayed at Kabbe Holidays for four days from 19th to 22nd January 2018 and loved every moment so much that it was hard to leave. Everything about Kabbe Holidays is to love . The location is breathtakingly beautiful with views that will stay with you forever. The rooms and the property is elegant and cosy both. A beautiful blend of traditional Coorg architecture and contemporary aesthetics elevates the charm of this homestay. The rooms are spotless and the bed and bath linen too. We slept like babies and woke up completely refreshed every morning and yes you even get your morning cuppa to the room if you need it. The food is delicious and sumptuous and Vidya makes sure that there is both Coorg Cuisine as well as dishes from other regions each cooked to perfection. Vidya and Dilip's hospitality is warm and genuine. I must mention that despite a family emergency they were the most wonderful hosts professional and so friendly both. I hope to return often to this beautiful slice of warmth and beauty again and again. We didn't take too many pictures of the homestay . They don't really do justice to the beauty and warmth of this property. I am sharing a few nevertheless.
We had a short, yet memorable stay at this place. Since the cottages were booked, we took the deluxe room. There's a common verandah for two deluxe rooms, whereas the cottages has private verandahs. The deluxe rooms were well appointed; other than a king-size bed, there is a convertible sofa and fridge. An electric kettle is also provided. Washroom had all the required toiletries and was clean. Hot water is available in the taps & shower.
Dilip & family were on an outstation trip when we arrived, but everything was well looked after by the caretaker Muthaiyah. Upon arrival, we were served yummy cakes, coffee/tea and vada. Muthaiyah customised the menu according our food preference; this was quite important for us since we had a child with us. Food was prepared fresh, and was hot and plentiful. We also had interesting conversations with other guests. These are things which you can enjoy only in a homestay.
A 10-min trek from the homestay will take you into the midst of rolling hills with nothing but nature for company. Going even further, you can trek onto the peak of a few hills. It's not a very difficult trek but we had to abandon it in between because my son was too young to trek and we got tired of carrying him on the steep path. But even with the short trek that we did, we had awesome views and enjoyed it thoroughly.
There's a waterfall nearby which seemed popular with tourists. Also, there's a coffee plantation behind the cottages where you can go for a walk. We saw leeches on our shoes both during plantation walk & during the hill trek; not too many, but this is something to be mindful of.
Another thing to note is the approach road. At Cheyandane, once you turn away from the main road towards the homestay, the road gets bad. This goes for ~2kms and then you encounter an excellent concrete road which goes all the way till the homestay & beyond. However, this road is not very wide; with some big vehicles taking tourists to the waterfall, navigating when you encounter another vehicle might turn tricky.
Overall, this place is best suited for a relaxing holiday with family.
We were a group of 4 adults and 2 kids. We had visited in November and the weather was pleasent (17deg - 27deg). It is a very scenic property, very well developed and maintained by the owners. The hosts were courteous. We were sure our stay was going to be exacellent from the warm welcome we received by Vidya and Dilip (the owners).
The food is exceptionally good. Everyday we were surprised by the variety of food she offered. The room facilities are basic, but clean - perfect for the type of stay we wanted.
Dilip is interested in Current affairs and is very much up to date with it. So, the meal time was one of the highlights with discussions over varied topics. It was like meeting old family friends.
Thanks Kabbe. :)
Well what can I say..Firstly Mr Dilip, a great host!! Secondly, the rooms are the best I have seen at any homestay. Clean, Fresh sheets, fresh towels, and the cottages to add to it have a lovely attic room with wooden stairs! The best of all was everywhere around the place all you hear is gushing water streams! A 30 minute trek takes you atop a mountain from where all you can see is rolling hills of the western ghats!! The food is great, tasty and sumptuous! Will definitely visit and keep visiting!
