Staying at Uruga was a little bit of heaven for the two of us.. Judy is a delightful hostess who has created a miniature botanic garden for her guests. On top of that the grounds were peaceful and filled with birdsong, down to experiencing a feeding session with the magpies that have been tamed and warble in the nearby trees to remind you that " it's time". As breakfast lovers we enjoyed the first meal of the day immensely...I would recommend it all but especially the layered meusli which was a gastronomic delight. We also enjoyed the accommodation, the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and continue the art and colour theme that captures the visitor's eye from the moment of arrival.. Judy is quite an artist and equally a lover of history...we appreciated the sharing of her family history and the tour through the rest of her delightful home Uruga is more than "the house on the hill". It is a B& B with a story , great ambience and the freedom to be busy or to take respite away from a busy life. ARF and LMF
This is a wonderful B&B. The host is informative and friendly. The rooms are large with a well appointed en-suite. The common room has lots of seating for relaxing, reading or watching TV. The garden is well maintained with outdoor seating to sit amongst the shrubbery and bird life. In all a fantastic stay, highly recommended.
We stayed here with our family, as we had a wedding in the area. Fantastic spot in Strathalbyn, would highly recommend staying here. My girlfriend and I are both vegan, and Judy had some amazing options on the breakfast menu. We loved the coconut yoghurt, avo toast and smoothie! All rooms were beautiful, really enjoyed the living room area, some great books available to chill out and read. Looking forward to getting back here in the future!
My wife and I had a quick stay in Strathalbyn for a wedding, and we were lucky enough to get a room at Uruga B&B. It is just an amazing place; owner Judy has lovingly created by far the best B&B we have ever stayed at! A true home away from home, the room we chose was just impeccable - comfortable, quiet and decorated with Judy's exquisite taste which balances the charms of this wonderful old home with light and uplifting modern tones.
Of course the true highlight is the garden! It is just exquisite - designed and tended with the same balance of light and space that the house is. Every corner is carefully considered, the colour, structure and fragrance is at once homely and familiar as well as taking some more experimental turns which show a gardener who really knows how to draw in her guests and keep them guessing! Wildlife everywhere - birds, lizards, insects and more birds - caps off the experience.
We had to leave very early the following day to catch a flight from Adelaide, but Judy insisted on seeing us off with fresh-baked muffins for our journey. Hospitality done right, in a charming part of the world. Thanks Judy, we will be back!
When size, privacy and design matters in a B&B Uruga has cracked it. We were amazed at the amount of space within our room and beyond, We had our own entrance, large lounge, coffee station and fridge amenities and could wander around what was essentially the equivalent space of a full home just for us. A rare and unexpected amount of space and privacy in a B&B setting topped off with a good win at the Strathalbyn race day. Local pub provided a great night out and meal and Judy's breakfast's set us up for our day's exploring. Highly recommend and will definitely return.
