Beautiful surroundngs, excellent location and facilities, but.... no air conditioning in the chalets.
We had a rip-roaring time in the day - lots of facilities available - pool, tennis courts, chess, and other games and the hotel facilities we just could not sleep in the December heat at night due to no air conditioners in the room - spent many a night sleeping in the cinema - they do have a decent movie house as well which we made good use of.
Alphine Heath is really a wonderful location and i would recommend this place to friends and families. This is the second time I've been to this resort and this place is for everyone. If you want to relax by the pool or be a bit of an adventurer. It can be done here. It really is a lovely place and should have scored higher in my opinion if these few things were sorted.
There are a number of reasons why i gave this place such a low rating this time around.
The first thing that got my attention and I believe everyone needs to be aware of this before they go to this resort. Is the amount of Noise created by the conferences especially at night. Both nights while i was there. Well after 1am in the morning. I could still hear the music playing from my chalet. This ruined my holiday.
The second thing that disappointed was on one morning a walked up to the reception to ask about the buffet dinner. I was told they were doing a buffet, I was provided the price and was told that we just needed to arrive. I decided to follow up again a few hours later to then be told there was no buffet. This was extremely disappointing as the rest of the family including me were really excited to eat out. Never happened!
Communication on management level between staff and guest need to be more clear and accurate.
Third thing that annoyed me was, Maintenance. One of the toilets in Room 17 was not flushing properly and needs to be sorted. Also the shower in that some bathroom. You're standing in water. Drainage needs to be improved.
Alphine Heath is not a cheap place and unfortunately i expected more from them. I'm not sure i'll be back a third time.
The chalets were wonderful - we will be coming back to stay here soon as we found the standard excellent and good value for Money.
Lots of Activities for KIds as well as Adults - we played Tennis , Squash and Volley Ball and the Enjoyed the Pools . The Staff were great - helpful and Pleasant .
I would recommend anyone to go there if they want value for their money. It's really nice, I enjoyed every moment. The games by the pool were really nice, horse riding, the night club had really nice music. We had fun and wish to go back someday.
Ants and flies are a problem there. The restaurants and bars don't allow you to book charges to your chalet (only if you have credit) that is just odd. The hiking trails could be more young family /elderly friendly e.g. rocks can be placed in rivers to cross over more easily.
No aircon in rooms and has irritating shaking noisy ceiling fans. Drinks at bars are expensive like R41 for a single jameson. There was reasonable entertainment.. only 1 table tennis table there and poor quality of tennis racquets and balls provided. Pools are nice but closes at 7pm. Watch out for the animals lurking about. Baboons stole my loaf bread. Outside patios need more lighting. Cant really see your meat on the braai.
Kitchen is abit dated in chalets. chalets sleep 6 but only 4 patio chairs outside.
