Beautiful surroundngs, excellent location and facilities, but.... no air conditioning in the chalets.
We had a rip-roaring time in the day - lots of facilities available - pool, tennis courts, chess, and other games and the hotel facilities we just could not sleep in the December heat at night due to no air conditioners in the room - spent many a night sleeping in the cinema - they do have a decent movie house as well which we made good use of.
Alphine Heath is really a wonderful location and i would recommend this place to friends and families. This is the second time I've been to this resort and this place is for everyone. If you want to relax by the pool or be a bit of an adventurer. It can be done here. It really is a lovely place and should have scored higher in my opinion if these few things were sorted.
There are a number of reasons why i gave this place such a low rating this time around.
The first thing that got my attention and I believe everyone needs to be aware of this before they go to this resort. Is the amount of Noise created by the conferences especially at night. Both nights while i was there. Well after 1am in the morning. I could still hear the music playing from my chalet. This ruined my holiday.
The second thing that disappointed was on one morning a walked up to the reception to ask about the buffet dinner. I was told they were doing a buffet, I was provided the price and was told that we just needed to arrive. I decided to follow up again a few hours later to then be told there was no buffet. This was extremely disappointing as the rest of the family including me were really excited to eat out. Never happened!
Communication on management level between staff and guest need to be more clear and accurate.
Third thing that annoyed me was, Maintenance. One of the toilets in Room 17 was not flushing properly and needs to be sorted. Also the shower in that some bathroom. You're standing in water. Drainage needs to be improved.
Alphine Heath is not a cheap place and unfortunately i expected more from them. I'm not sure i'll be back a third time.
Management has failed miserably. At 15:30 reception informed us that we would occupy chalet No: 100 and 99. We were asked to wait as they were making sure that the chalets were clean. Finally, upon arrival at chalet 100 the disaster was in full view. The toilet in the main bedroom was leaking water. Despite assistance from maintenance this continued for the 2 days of our stay. The light bulb in the bathroom was not working and had to be fixed. An outside bulb had to be replaced. The TV remote and TV were not working and also needed maintenance support and replacement. A shower hose and shower head were simply left lying in the second bathroom. A shelf in the kitchen was falling apart and lying on top of the pots and pans. To end our first evening at Alpine Heath we discovered that there were no bulbs in the main bedroom. By all accounts from managers and staff, everyone knew that chalet 100 and 99 were a mess and had not been used for an extended period. But you still thought that you could make a quick buck. Shame on management. Never again. We typed our concerns at reception.
We have stayed many times at Alpine Heath - before and after renovations. This time we were put on the complete opposite side of the resort. We had 4 units - all 6 sleepers.
We stayed in 81, 82, 83 and 84.
I don’t think that our unit was renovated/refurbished. It was also very dusty.
This time our group got 81-84
It’s on the hill opp the reception and village area. The pathways and bridge allow for easy accessibility- a 5m walk.
The village area is very nice:
Outside braai area
Kids club, ping pong, movie theatre
We had a 3 bedroom. 6 sleeper.
The main bedroom has a Queen bed and the other rooms had twin beds.
The Bedding was not comfortable at all - it was very scratchy.
The window in the main bedroom was broken so it didn’t close fully - so we had lots of little bugs. There’s a Fan in each room.
The main en suite is small. The shower has a rain shower head but the cubicle is tiny. A shower gel, soap, shampoo and body lotion is provided.
The kitchen has a small fridge with freezer, an oven, stove and microwave. There is a kettle and toaster as well.
Crockery and cutlery is provided, as are cooking utensils but some of the stuff isn’t in good condition- especially the frying pan. It’s terribly scratched and no longer non stick.
2 dish cloths, a swab and washing liquid is provided - but there isn’t a sponge/scourer.
We went to the spa which is located at the bottom of the resort by the dam.
There’s a dilapidated thatch roof building next to the spa.
The ladies at the spa are quite curt. The spa is small.
My friend and I opted for leg and foot massages which was R200 for about 20m.
I wouldn’t recommend it. I had stated medium pressure but got very firm! Even after telling the lady - go softer - still it was firm. There’s no atmosphere unless you count the bullfrogs croaking as ambience.
Also it was so quick - over before we knew it!
I really loved everything about the place. Where it is situated, the friendly staff members, the good food, just everything! Even though I visited the place in winter, I did not even feel the coldness because inside the conference room and the house was very warm.
