Its definately worth a stay if you are on a budget. Keep in mind its an older hotel and needs some serious updating. Service was great. We had an issue with their guest washer and dryer and it was fixed immediately. Rooms are fairly clean and smell nice. The room we got had a heater/ac that blew hot during the day and cold at night. Not something you want on a cold December night. I only saw one roach in the room and that was when we were packing up to leave. The manager told us they are going to do some updates, so the rates will be going up but not by much.
We have stayed at the Gretna for going on 5 years. Richard and Raquel were wonderful owners. They recently have sold the business and moved. It just isn't the same.
When you walk in the lobby; all you smell is cigarette smoke. We didn't have any price issues as I have seen in some other comments. Once getting to our room; the air conditioner wouldn't turn on. My husband went to the lobby and a young boy was told to get his PaPa. The PaPa was up there pretty quickly and got our air up and running quickly. He was friendly. The beds were hard, which has never been a complaint of mine and we have stayed here at least 15 times. None of the same maintainance workers were there, which isn't a surprise with new ownership, but the same standards aren't there yet. On the plus side; they are friendly and doing several updates to the property.
We've stayed several times at Gretna Inn, and were satisfied. Clean rooms at a reasonable price. No real breakfast, but on a gluten/dairy free diet, few hotels offer much for us, so we don't care. Our problem with Gretna Inn was only on our last stay. We checked in in the afternoon, and put our things in our room. When we checked in, we were charged a higher price than we agreed to when making the reservation, but I didn't have the exact price with me, so I wasn't prepared to argue. When we came back to our room at night, we couldn't get our door to unlock. My husband tried both keys repeatedly, but couldn't open the door. I went to the office and there was a doorbell for after hours, which I rang-- and had no response. I rang many times and knocked on the windows of the attached room, laundry, etc....and rang again. After some time we had not reached anyone. I finally called the police, who were gracious enough to call the emergency number they had on file. The officer reached the owner, who called the rather unpleasant on-site manager. He finally pushed and pulled on the door while unlocking it, until he figured out which arrangement worked. The owner and manager never offered an apology. We don't plan on going back. There are many clean, low-cost hotels in Branson which have someone available for such emergencies.
After a 30 minute process of getting checked in due to management taking a call in the process of our check in and staff not having the room we requested upon reservation a week before. Requested a room on the backside and ended up with a room on the front side. Upon my wife and myself entering the room along with the manager assisting in unlocking our room the gentlemanly asked my wife if she was happy and satisfied, when she responded no it was not what was requested. He began to tell my wife, she could leave and go to another motel and repeated it several times when she stated it was fine. Upon us getting luggage and personal belongings in room there was a horrible odor in the room. We decided to go to dinner and hopefully it would be better when we returned. Omg the complete opposite, it actually smelled toxic and unhealthy even after opening door and trying to reduce the smell. We decided we should tell management and try to get a different room, well that did not set well at all with him. He proceeded to tell me the same thing he had told my wife earlier, suggesting we leave and go to another motel. I was shocked to hear the statement a second time that same evening. I said we would be glad to leave the facility but in the process he starts trying to find another room. He relocated us to and 1st floor inside room that he was using as a greenhouse. We did move to this room which was small but did not have a bad odor. Beds were comfortable and we we were able to get a peaceful nights sleep. Will never stay at this motel again and its unfortunate because it was a great location but my wife and myself choose to not be insulted again by someone that should be accomdating their guests. I travel every week for business and stay in hotels all over and have never been spoken to like my wife and I were that evening. Do not recommend unless you want to be insulted and asked to stay somewhere else.
We have a favorite room at the Gretna Inn we try to reserve when we go to Branson. Sometimes we decide to go on such short notice that our room is not available. This trip, it was. We prefer the mini-suite, I've reviewed before and said the owner was continually updating the property. Although the inn has the appearance of a older property, it remains clean and well cared for. A large mirror has been added to the dressing area. The flat screen tv, microwave, and refrigerator make for a comfortable stay at a reasonable nightly rate. Free Wi-Fi is fast and dependable. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Coffee, orange juice, donuts and muffins are available in the office until 9:30 a.m. Still wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.
