I cannot say enough good things about our stay here. We stayed in the Margaret Brent room and it was spectacular. After a long day driving I really appreciated the jacuzzi tub for two,the calming views, and the amazing private dining option.
The food was first class and the service impeccable. We enjoyed the oysters, crab bisque and Maryland Rockfish. Do take advantage of this option !! Breakfast was excellent. It was obvious a lot of thought went into picking fresh local ingredients. Our host Gerald knows the area well and is very knowledgeable, we enjoyed hearing about the history of the area. He lives an interesting life and has some great stories. I wish we had stayed longer to enjoy the expansive library and chaise lounge on the private balcony with its amazing water view.
My partner and I visited Swanendele looking for a relaxing stay at a comfortable place within reasonable driving distance of the DC area. We were not prepared for the wonderful location, buildings & grounds, and hospitality that Swanendele provided. When we pulled in, we noticed lovely landscaping and an expansive waterview that we enjoyed from the huge wraparound porch and our room. We had gourmet meals provided by Miguel, showing off his years as a chef in various international locations. We had breakfast and coffee on the porch while watching the boats and birds and enjoyed the breezes from the water. The facility itself, architecturally impressive. It's large and open and full of interesting spaces decorated with pieces that have historical and international origin. We found it comfortable to move around, knowing that any need we had would be quickly accommodated. We feel like we had a five-star experience we are looking forward to repeating!
My husband and I stayed at this lovely waterfront Inn in early September and loved everything about it! The Inn itself is located right on the water and is beautiful and new yet has an older world charm as it is decorated with antiques, pictures, books and other furnishings from the Owner's travels around the world. We stayed in the Lord Calvert Suite, which was beautiful and every comfort attended (soft robes, 2-person seated jacuzzi, huge comfortable bed and white cotton bedding, Keurig coffee in room, pretty views, private and quiet). The food was delicious and healthy, homemade by the Inn Keeper and his lovely wife and included varieties of fresh breads, homemade soups, and fresh caught oysters and fish. The BEST surprise of all- a birthday cake to celebrate my 50th birthday accompanied by a very sweet and special serenade of an old European birthday song by the Owner and Inn Keepers which brought tears to my eyes. This place is very special, and perfect for a special, quiet, easy vacation or quick getaway with its good food, comfort, and water views. We will definitely be going back.
My favorite cousin from Atlanta and my husband and I met in Williamsburg and drove to Maryland to research our Briscoe family history. We spent three nights in the Swanendele Inn and enjoyed every minute! It was so lovely and peaceful we hardly wanted to go out of the Inn to poke around in the local history. The owner and staff went overboard to make us comfortable and welcome! The food was superb, our favorite was the lemon bread served at our breakfast on the porch overlooking the river. Homemade bread is Manuel's specialty! My husband has a knee problem and there was a very convenient, discrete, lift near our room for our luggage and him to ride up to our level. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable, the bathroom was elegant and the shower was fitted for handicapped even tho it did not look like a "handicapped" shower.
We had two rooms with a huge lounge (with coffee maker) all to ourselves, a fireplace and balcony looking over the water made this a great gathering place. There were other couples staying in the Inn but we never heard them, it felt like we had a luxury lodge all to ourselves.
There was plenty of free parking even when we came in late at night.
The owner is a fountain of knowledge about the local area and people and about the world, we felt like we had been in some old family home in Europe and he made us feel like we were part of the family.
We cannot wait to go back, to sit on the veranda and listen to the birds call, the fish jump and the oyster boats chugging their way out to set their traps.
