Just got back from a 10 day vacation in Venice.we stayed at the Ville del Lido on the Lido S.M.E. side of the lagoon. I chose the Lido because having stayed in Venice before, I found the Lido to be a much better option then staying in Venice. First the lido has taxi service to take you from the boat station to your hotel with luggage, in Venice unless you have a very expensive hotel that is easy to get to via water taxi, you have to carry your luggage to the hotel which can be challenging due to the many bridges one might have to cross The Lido is a smart choice to stay and unwind after the hussle and bussle of sightseeing in Venice, it is only a short Vaporetto ride from Venice, and there are many Vaporettos coming and going from the lido, We stayed at the Ville Del Lido, which was as comfortable as one can be, we had the 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with a balcony across the street from the beach, and also a private terrace above our room with the stairs which lead to it inside our room, the beds were comfortable, our master bedroom had a master bath, and the other bedroom had another full bath in the hallway. Our unit had a kitchen, and refrigerator which we stocked shopping at the local supermarket called Conad, in the center of town where all the shops, and restaurants are which was a 10 minute walk from the hotel. In the summer you can spend time on the beautiful beach . The hotel staff spoke English and were very attentive to all our needs. We loved this hotel.
We spent 4 nights here in August. There is a lovely pool which is certainly hard to find in Venice. It is in close proximity to the main attractions and right next to the beach, so the location is very good.
The air conditioning works well. The accommodation has plenty of space for a large family including kitchenette. The breakfast is adequate and comprises a cold buffet.
Our biggest issue was coming back to the hotel in the afternoon to find out bedroom door left open after being cleaned. The hotel has no gate or visible security and the rooms are easily accessed from the street. Furthermore, the safe in our room was not working. Matilde at the front desk was quite unhelpful and abrupt when we reported this, and moreover there was a lot of shrugging shoulders and eye rolling, and an explanation of “accidents happen”. She begrudgingly sent someone to fix the safe temporarily, after we reported it twice previously, over 3 days.
Having said that, Rebecca at the front desk was very helpful and friendly.
Also, be aware that during the summer and confirmed by the hotel (after we had the pleasure of the experience), there is a big party right outside by the beach which goes on until at least 2 am on a Saturday night. Perhaps we had the worst room for this, but it was like being at some 1990s rave. I called reception at about 12:15 but there was nothing they could do. They told me the next day that they had called the police after I reported it, but the police were ignored by the party organisers. The hotel needs to take a stronger stance on this and work proactively with the local police station.
The bed was very uncomfortable and the room is very shabby (nothing to do with the style which is Venetian, but it needs repainting, and the bathroom fittings are tired). There were cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling. I did not bother reporting these as I couldn’t see the point of being shrugged at by reception.
I realise that historically this hotel has had very good reviews on Tripadvisor and I suspect that the response to mine may be similar to the response made by the hotel to other previous negative reviews – “but we are number one on trip advisor”. I’ m not sure that invalidates a trip advisor review.
I did ask the hotel for some compensation for the issues faced, by way of a credit back to my account. I was refused, but offered a non specific discount, a bottle of sparkling wine and some ice cream, for a future stay, that I do not intend to make.
Clean and big room in old Venecian interior style with small private garden area. Staff very kind and good speaking English. Location!
Parking free of charge!
Minus - reception not 24/7.
Breakfast very basic.
The location is good, near the sea. 10 min walk to the station of waterbus. 15 min walk by waterbus to the center of Venice. There is a pool, but not big. Room is good and cozy, the bed is big and comfortable, there is a kitchen. We didn’t like breakfast, there was nothing to eat and wi-fi didn’t work.
I don't understand how anyone could say anything negative at all about this hotel. We arrived in Lido after a short water bus ride from Venice and found the hotel easily - had a very warm welcome from reception on arrival and was shown our room. We had room 112 which was large and had our own little garden area. The furniture is in true venitian style which makes the hotel even more special . The room was spotless. Breakfast was nice with a plentiful supply. It was a little chilly for the beach when we were there but the beach is very close and I can imagine nice in the summer. Thank you so much for making our Venice trip special. Anyone wanting to go to Venice I would 100% recommend staying here.
