We chose this hotel mainly because of the great reviews it got on tripadvisor. I do think they are tampering with the ratings. It was an okay place, but found it definitely too expensive for what you get. True, it is an old palace and quite nice. However, it is not that well kept. The rooms are very spacious, but have a bit of a musty smell. The balcony in front of our rooms did have some chairs, but mixed wicker and plastic and no table with it. We had booked two rooms for two parents and six children aged 3, 7, 10 and 12. Upon arrival, we were told that although mentioned in the booking, an extra bed would have to be paid for. After I expressed my surprise about this, the manager agreed to provide it for free, however, it didn´t appear and I was too tired to go and ask again. There was seemingly only one other family in the hotel when we were there. The first breakfast was a catasptrophe. Bascially everyone who stays there goes to visit Hampi, which is more than one hour drive away. It is mandatory to leave early, as it gets too hot for sightseeing otherwise. When we appeared for a quick breakfast, however, it turned out there was not buffet, but a menu to choose from. The staff only spoke limited English and it took ages for some food to arrive.
After we returned from Hampi, obviously a superior manager had been informed that we had been quite unhappy. He tried his best to make our stay more enjoyable. The second day there was a proper breakfast buffet and tables set outside instead of inside in a stuffy small room. He even provided us some sandwiches and snacks for our drive, which was really nice.

The pool is quite nice and we enjoyed it. The surroundings were totally dry and yellow when we were there, so not such a great atmosphere. Also, they burnt some grass/fields near our side of the hotel, so there was a constant smell of smoke outside.

All over, the place is okay. However, it was the most expensive place we stayed in during our whole trip and by far not the best. Looking back, for visiting Hampi I would also have chosen a location closer to Hampi itself, as the drive is more than one hour and exhausting, especially in the dark if you want to see the sunset in Hampi.

Dear Guest, Greetings from WH Shivavilas Palace !!! Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback and It is most unfortunate that we did not live up to your expectation. I request you to accept our profound and sincere apologies. Kindly note the hotel gets its reviews genuinely based on exclusive service given to all the guests who stayed with us. The Hotel nor TripAdvisor as a genuine brand encourages false reviews. With regards to your feedback, I have discussed it in detail with the concerned Department Heads for immediate corrective action. Regarding breakfast Buffet served in the west lounge the hotel decides to serve a buffet or serve the dishes on the table as per guest requirement purely on the basis of occupancy. As serving buffet in case of limited occupancy may lead to wastage of food, as we always encourage serving fresh made food. In case there is no buffet, the dishes planned for the day by our chef are displayed on the tent card and you may choose as per your requirement to be served on the table hot. I would be personally addressing and correcting all such issues. And ensure it is never repeated. It is also our sincere request to forgive us and bestow upon us another opportunity to serve you in the near future with an assurance of better and improved services. We remain at your service and look forward to welcome you back at WH Shivavilas Palace Hampi.

While searching for a place to stay for our trip to Hampi we opted for this charming palace and we were not disappointed. This small (only 12 rooms) hotel and it's staff has delivered one of the most welcoming, service oriented attitude we have experienced so far in India: the big 5-star hotels we've been to cannot match this personalised, warm and attentive service we have received during our 2 nights - stay.

We drove from Bangalore with our car so it didn't bother us that the archeological sites are another hour away.
Our trip started one day before our actual arrival at the hotel: we were contacted ahead of time and our driver received exact instructions regarding the best route to reach the hotel. We were asked beforehand for the expected arrival time, our eating/lunch habits, the prefered level of spiciness for our food any other requests we might have.
On arrival, the staff greeted us very with a refreshing glass of juice/water showed us our rooms and served us an excellent tasty Indian lunch. Relaxing at the beautiful pool was an excellent option for our girls after the long drive. We were shown the small but very exquisite collection of vintage cars and of memorabilia from former times - everything at our preference and in our time. The rooms are very spacious and charmingly decorated.

The hotel has organised us a private guide for Hampi - we did not need to worry about a thing. After returning from the rather exhausting day trip, the property manager Mr. Sameer convinced us to have a massage at the spa: the best thing that could have happened to us, a bliss. Mr Sameer has accommodated all special requests we had, timings, like the kids only having half an hour and us having different requirements.
Out of a (bad) habit, we had just stuffed our worn clothes into a laundry bag without mentioning it: next morning everything was perfectly clean and ready to go - no strings attached.

Anything and everything we needed or asked for the staff organised to our greatest satisfaction. Even more: the staff was so proactive, so pleasantly surprising with a very subtle unpushy demeanor.

A very big thank you to all who made our stay so special. We'll be back.

It was a nice experience! The palace is very small and has only 10 rooms. The location was a problem though. Staff was very helpful. They, at a nominal cost, arranged a vehicle for us to look for the Neelkurinji flowers (these bloom only once in 12 years) which was disappointing as they were plucked away to glory by tourists/locals.

Cons: Close to 40 km to Hampi and not much to do there except enjoy the great service and chill with a drink in the peace and quiet or spend quality time with friends and/or family with bicycles, badminton, swimming pool and an activity room available.

Well, this is a very lovely property.........with only about 12 rooms in the palace. The rooms are nicely done as is the full property. Its and ideal place to go with family or friends and relax. There is a swimming pool, good lawns, an activity room with games like table tennis, darts, carrom, chess, ps3 (only 1 game though!). The staff is excellent and ever ready to be of assistance. There is also a billiards room and a bar. Just a great place if you want to take it easy. The last 20 Kms on the road are rough but otherwise no complaints. Food is allright - nothing great, but good - not a running kitchen as in big hotels!
