Having travelled to India on numerous occasions we were looking for something different to a hotel. TSGG was perfect in so many ways.
A wonderful property, secluded peaceful surrounded by tropical plant life. Helene provides the perfect balance from being host, guide, organiser and friend. The room was always spotless with plenty of fresh towels. It was the way everything was thought of, subtle, considerate, just right.
Late night swimming in the pool is a must. A wonderful way to finish an evening.
The dogs were a great addition, they are so friendly and gentle. We loved them.
We were so fortunate that the other guests (G & S) were such great company. Some real good times.
Now for the important bits for travellers
If you want to get around then you will need some transport. The beach is a fair distance. Using a scooter is the best way and Helene will arrange (inexpensive). Failing that you will have to rely on taxis. Make sure you have your driving licence if you chose the scooter.
There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. We decided to have a takeaway a couple of nights simply because no restaurant could match the setting of alfresco dining at TSGG.
For anybody who wants the comfort and luxury of a top quality boutique hotel layered into a unique homely setting then this is it.
Thanks to Helene and the other guests we had an amazing week.

:) What a lovely balanced review to read - thank you for taking the time to write it - I know how busy you are and really appreciate the thought that has gone into it. It was so lovely to have you both to stay, really enjoyed your company and our chats. Really glad you took the homestay plunge and enjoyed everything that was on offer. It is lovely looking after guests and opening up our home... even better when they appreciate the little touches and effort put in and more importantly - leave as friends. Looking forward to see you both again. Thank you so much, Helene

We went to Goa on my birthday and decided to stay in south goa for 3 days and relax, but luckily my wife convinced me to stay for couple of nights at this excellent homestay (she found it via a blog which she follows). This was the best decision of our trip...... the home is located right behind Ma De Deus church..... We stayed in Raja room and loved it..... our houst Derick and Helene were absolutely fantastic...... the room was of 5 star quality and the most amazing thing was how importance was given to every small detail in the room..... the bed was perfect, a rocking chair and a small personal library elevated the room to another level. The outdoor pool is excellent. The best part about staying here was our host Helene..... her stories are amazing and here knowledge of north Goa is astonishing. Be it lunch, dinner or anywhere we wanted to go, all we had to do was ask Helene ( PS- she knows more about all the restaurants, shops or anything, even better than Google). And how can we forget the breakfast...... freshly baked bread, juices, fruits..... and the best Omllete I have ever had in my life!!!!!!!! Do not miss it or you will regret it for sure...... away from all the buzz and parties of north goa we found this homestay as heaven..... couldn't have been a better birthday gift thn this..... though we missed the festival, we would be back here for next monsoons (or even before that) for sure..... would recommend this place to anyone looking for quiet and yet exciting stay in north goa :-)

Hey there!
Thank you for your delightful review of your stay with us at TSGG. I really enjoyed having you guys to stay. I am so glad you found my insights helpful. I am glowing at your compliments at my home cooking skills. Cooking is such a pleasure when it is appreciated and nothing more satisfying than empty plates! You did miss an amazing Soa Joao celebration - check out the pics on saligao.net on face book. Looking forward to welcoming you back to The Secret Garden Goa in the near future.
Have a wonderful week ahead, fondest wishes, Helene

Helene and Derek have created a magical retreat from the crazy hubub of Goa. The fabulous tropical garden and pool surround their beautiful stylish home, which has been thoughtfully renovated and extended. There’s lots of quirky thoughtful touches which instantly make you feel at home, such as books, games and magazines. Helene’s famous breakfasts are utterly delicious, don’t miss the delicious omelette! Best of all is the warm welcome. Helene and Derek really go the extra mile to welcome you into their family and lifestyle. This was our first home stay in India and we loved it.

Dear G&P
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of your debut in a homestay Goa style! It was really touching to read your beautiful review, it means a lot when fellow hosts endorse what is attempted here! :) I really enjoyed our chats (& giggles) it was great getting to know you both and hearing about your life in Europe. So glad that you loved your time here as much as I loved having you
- the time just went so quickly. Do take care, wrap up in that frightfully cold weather. Looking forward to seeing you both on your next trip to Goa! Thanks again, Hx

The Menezes family home is a lovingly restored, Indo-Portuguese bungalow, now converted into a charming three room B&B called The Secret Garden. The rooms are all unique and quite different from each other so it’s hard to say which is the nicest. The common areas are decorated with a lovely mix of books and family memorabilia. The pool at The Secret Garden is absolutely stunning especially at night when it is lit up. A midnight dip in the inky waters on a full moon night was a magical experience! Helene lays out the best breakfast spread in Goa and guests are spoilt for choice. The hosts are on call at all times but are careful to afford guests their privacy at all times. The Secret Garden is located a mere 10 minute drive from the bustling tourist belt of Sinquerim-Candolim-Calangute-Baga where all the best restaurants and nightclubs are located. It’s great to be able to experience the buzz but come ‘home’ to the peace and quiet after a night on the town. All in all a fabulous find!

Thank you for your wonderful review of TSGG - it was really lovely that you chose us for your mini break away from it all. We truly value all feedback from our guests, it is great that you took the time out to pen your experience with us. I love to cook, and you obviously really enjoyed the breakfast spread which is good to know! We do look forward to welcoming you back into our home whenever you need to escape. Thanks again, Helene

Amazing family, unbelievable accommodation and one unforgettable holiday. Helen was the perfect host and her breakfast was straight out of an Enid Blyton book. Kismet the cat their friendly doggies added to the homely atmosphere. The swimming pool surrounded by a lush green tropical garden was out of this world.

:) :) :) OH GOLLY! I think I read every Enid Blyton novel by the time I was 12! Obviously went to my head a bit!! It was so lovely to meet you and your gorgeous girls! Please tell Nisha her snowflakes have pride of place on the entrance Christmas tree - they look a treat! The pets send their love - they are missing all that attention! Take care & wishing you all a Happy, Healthy Blessed 2017. Much love all the team at TSGG!
