Our stay at The Secret Garden turned out to be one of the best holidays we ever took. There is so much beauty and tranquility in this home. Because a home it is and we felt very fortunate to be able to share it with Helene. It is a labour of love and every corner yields a pretty surprise. At the same time there is every luxury and comfort you would expect as a guest. We stayed at the Malabar Garden Room and loved every bit of it. From the loads of books stacked in every corner, to the ginormous, luxurious bathroom with tons of scented candles and a super comfy king size bed, a desk with stationary, colours, a folder of things to do, a personalised welcome note... We used to reluctantly leave the sanctuary of The Secret Garden for our meals. There are lots of excellent restaurants close by to choose from.
We take back delightful memories of long gourmet breakfasts (Helenes omelettes are a work of art that converted a non egg-eater like me to eat them 3 days in a row), moonlit midnight swims, a private Bachahta dance lesson in the comfort of our room, long lazy afternoons curled up with a book on the hammock (I finished two books), play sessions with the adorable trio of rescue dogs Luna, Diver and Merlot, and no television (Thank God!).
What stands out most in our minds is Helene. She is truly Wonder Woman- engaging, funny, generous, warm and incredibly compassionate. I especially cherish our long conversations and am still munching on the food for thought. Special mention to all her staff which is incredibly efficient and warm.
We can’t wait to go back.
