Visited at the end of September and had some concerns after reading previous reviews. But actually we had a very pleasant experience of both dining and using the bars.
It must be understood that the hotel was barely 25% full, so some services were scaled back, however we were left wondering how chaotic mealtime would be if the hotel was full.
Typical buffet fare with selection of cereals, fruit, continental fare eg croissants, cold meats etc, and cooked items eg various sausages, freshly fried eggs, omelettes, beans tomato etc. And bacon, but for some reason this popular choice was not available every day. And of course a toasting device, you know the type. Again hard to see how one toaster could be enough for a full hotel.
We only used the dining room once for lunch and actually it was probably the best meal to have there. Good selection of hot and cold food and freshly grilled burgers.
We did have the packed lunch twice, a sandwich, drink, crisps and fruit. It was ok for what it was, to take out on the golf course.
We actually took advantage of the Lighthouse golf clubhouse, the 19th hole, we’re we enjoyed some great food and service. The menu is very limited but we had the grilled bream several times because it was so good. This is included in any AI package, as are drinks at the 19th.
Good selection of salads and desserts, the main course was a bit hit and miss to be honest, but after a Late lunch we often had a very light dinner.
My advice is to make it more of a tapas style evening, trying bits of everything rather than try to make a full plate.
The staff are all warm and friendly, and always ready with more wine.
Previous comments on here reference the food temperature. This is an issue as I prefer my food piping hot. Wether it was to address this issue I do not know but the dining room has a large, industrial microwave that allows tepid food to be heated. Not ideal I know but as a compromise I felt it worked well.
As stated, end of season so pool bar and piano bar were not available. The lobby bar was more than adequate for the number of guests.
The staff were efficient and polite, and some very friendly. The local draft beer is excellent but we thought the gin unusually sweet. There is a staggering selection of top shelf spirits, especially whiskey and vodka but obviously these are not included in the AI.
The same can be said for the 19th hole bar.
We did wonder if the patio would be adequate for a full hotel but we had no problem.
My husband and I stayed at the Lighthouse Hotel for a week from 17th September. We had both read reviews on Tripadvisor prior to going and were quite worried about what state the place was going to be in. We couldn't have been more wrong.
From our arrival (a nice cold glass of bubbly thank you very much), the very warm welcome of all personnel at the hotel from reception to concierge to restaurant to the lovely cleaning ladies. We couldn't fault one thing.
Ok admittedly the selection of food within the restaurant isn't like the mountains of food that are on offer at the likes of Gloria or Sueno Deluxe in Turkey but we didn't starve or struggle to find something to our palette.
Our room was clean, spacious, the bathroom AMAZING and a huge bed. Both of us have said we slept fitfully every night due to the bed/bedding/pillows, nothing to do with the nightcaps.
For the ladies reviewing this there is a hairdryer in the bathroom but limited number of hangers in the wardrobe (about 8), plenty of storage though.
Golf wise we played at Lighthouse, BSR and Thracian. All very good courses, Thracian obviously peaks the list due to the amazing location it offers fabulous views of the sea. A big shout out for the lovely Tsvety at Lighthouse Golf Pro Shop; always there with a smile and time for a chat. Shiv's the compulsory stop after the 8th hole at Lighthouse allows you to take advantage of the coastal views without worrying about holding up the 4 ball behind you.
We both had a deep muscle massage at the hotel which although painful at the time did provide a more fluid golf swing albeit 24 hours after!
Our non golfing day we took advantage to travel into Balchik. There isn't a great deal to do if you are wanting a typical seaside/tourist front however there is a lovely walk along the sea front with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Again as it is now out of their main tourist season it takes a while for some places to open up.
If you are a golfer wanting a golfing holiday with the course on your doorstep for a very reasonable price we honestly don't think you can go far wrong than staying at Lighthouse Golf and will certainly recommend to our friends.
Thank you to all at Lighthouse Golf and Spa Resort for a great holiday
Having visited this hotel 5 years ago with some negative experiences, I was skeptical to come back, but my friends convinced me to try it out again. There was no positive change in the unfriendly attitude of the staff. Also most of the staff does not understand English. The „do not disturb“ sign is not respected, staff entered the room two days in a row although the sign was on the door. Moreover the hotel is not in good shape, the carpets have not been cleaned, the walls are chipped and dirty, the furniture in the rooms is chipped at all edges, the curtains are stained. Although the breakfast is full of varied choices, the breakfast room is dirty and also full of stains. The tiny beach of the hotel is very far away and now it is closed with no explanation.
Good parts of the hotel: pool in the spa area is nice and also the exterior pools are acceptable, although the pebble stones around them are not at all comfortable for walking.
I booked 4 nights at an all inclusive rate for only 650 euros at this 5 stars resort. I bragged about it to all my friends. One of them said "cool, but these are 5 bulgarian stars". I didn't quite understand what he meant. I thought to myself that he might just be jealous because he booked 4 nights at Novotel in Barcelona for the same price as I did. And then my journey began.
What I liked:
-there's this guy at the reception who is a total sweatheart; he speaks English at a fluent level, very detail and client orientated and is very bright;
-the view; I stayed in a room with a view at the golf course and it was really relaxing;
-the interior pool; very very clean
What made me realise what "5 bulgarian stars mean":
-there's a shift at the Lobby Bar with 2 blond guys who look like they're about to mug you; when I asked something to drink and they would pass over the glass, they would never grab the glass from the base; also, they would never respond to "thank you"
-the drinks within the all inclusive offer are mostly a random alcohol with a bit of diluted burnt sugar in it to mimic some brands (e.g.: the rum tastes like a ruined Christmas);
-within the outter yard, where the terrace is, there are around 7 wasp nests that nobody would attend to;
-it's 3PM and nobody cleaned my room; don't get me wrong,I did leave the sign knob that requests housekeeping but the ladies already came inside because they refilles my water stock;
-housekeeping doesn't take care of the balcony; found cigarretes on the floor;
-the food from the buffet was at most bad; it started with a bang on Monday and by the end of the week they recicled the leftovers over and over again; you could literally see the cheese aging process from day to day;
-during today's breakfast I took the liberty of taking a slice of bread so I could enjoy some butter; when I flipped the slice so I could spread the butter, I notice that around 20% of it was covered with green mold; I calmly took it to a cook that was inspecting the food stocks and without making any fuss about it; he replied with "sorry, me no English"; so I threw it back in the bread basket so everybody else could see it;(they changed the basket eventually)
-I checked the price list in the room and I noticed that they have a pool table which they marketed as 1.5euros/game; the bartender asked 10BGN (roughly 5 euros).
All in all I think I might return here....if it's a 1 day conference or something and I wouldn't have to pay it from my own money because it's not worth it
Awful experience last weekend which says a lot about the ownership of this resort! Last Saturday they hold a Karaoke party in the hotel's indoor bar until 4 a'clock in the morning! We were accommodated in a room right above the Bar and we heard loud music and poor drunk people's voices all night. It was impossible to sleep in that room. At around 02:30 I went to the Reception to complain about it and if possible to change the room and I was told that the hotel's manager or owner was throwing a party there with their friends so she could do nothing about it, and also no other rooms were available. After I insisted they said the party will only take another 5 minutes or so...to get rid of me. The party kept going around 2 hours later until 04:30 in the morning. In the morning after we receive some poor excuses from the hotel manager..Terrible!
