We stayed here for 4 nights for the camel festival. The owner is lovely and very knowledgeable and helpful. Sadly the hotel was not as great as him. The beds were so noisy, there is building work going on next door and has animals at the back of the ground floor bedroom where we stayed. The food was hit and miss and the roof terrace which is a great feature needed a good clean.
So hopefully these issues will be dealt with and taken on board as helpful 🙏
Helsinki House is a family run hotel, now they own another hotel around the corner. Very small haveli like place, done up tastefully. Staff is polite and courteous. Food isn't exceptional but they could do a decent job of traditional dishes. We reached late afternoon and could order some snacks etc for in room dining. The early morning that we left there were staff available to carry our luggage downstairs. The location isn't great..it's the back of the beyond but flip side of that was that car could be parked next to the property. Helsinki House is made and run by the family by passion. Now it needs an eye for cleanliness, maintenance and food to reach its potential of being one of the best in the city.
The haveli looks lovely from outside, but for us it ended there. The rooms were quite dingy and not at all open and airy the way they showed in the pics. Even though we stayed for 2 nights, the room wasnt even cleaned once. The beds were super creaky. I wouldnt recommend this place. we stayed in the groundfloor rooms, so maybe ensure you dont have them. Breakfast was decent and staff were friendly, I guess they only need to work on their rooms
We booked this hotel after much research since Jaisalmer does not seem to have a lot of fancy properties but Helsinki house was different.
Right from the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and the warmth of the staff showed. They helped us pick our bags and the check in was smooth.
The rooms were clean and the washrooms were clean too. Though the towels were unusable but it is anyway advised to not use the towels in the hotel and carry your own due to Covid. The rooms were equipped with room heaters and kettles and had hot running water. The view could have been better given that we booked the superior room but it wasn't too much of a concern. The property is just a few minutes of walk from the main road from where one can get the autos to visit various places. Though the approach road to the property was not clean.
What blew our minds away was the roof top restaurant overlooking the Jaisalmer fort. The tables and utensils were clean and the kitchen looked clean too. The food tasted so good and the staff arranged sweets from us from a a nearby shop.
The menus is crazy and they were happy to make anything that we wanted for dinner. the breakfast was a treat to the taste buds and the view just added to it.
One other important thing is that the property does not take card payments and relies only on cash/UPI which could be a deal breaker for some.
The stay was comfortable and we would definitely recommend people to book this place .
The hotel is in a narrow lane quite far from main road.
Well maintained colourful hotel. Room was great with all amenities except you do not find a place to hang your clothes .
May consider providing a wardrobe and safe box.
Food was good.
Enjoyed stay.
