This hotel is wonderful from the outside and so was the warm welcome we received with flower garlands, sweets, a drink and towels. The staff were lovely and one showed us around and gave us a tour of the building. We found the rooms with lots of hunting trophies a bit creepy - not for us but would maybe appeal to others. We did not use the pool and thought it didn't look that clean. Otherwise, the building is vast with looks of interesting nooks and crannies and we ventured up on to the roof a couple of times for the great views, not just of the surroundings but also of the hotel itself as you can look down into the courtyard.

We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and really enjoyed it. My partner is vegetarian and the aubergine (baingan) and okra (bhindi) meals were delicious. We ate outside in the courtyard and found the waiting staff to be truly delightful. In the morning we took breakfast in the dining room which was OK but in retrospect I think I would have preferred to have eaten in the lovely courtyard again, although unfortunately there was no shade there. The breakfast was not quite up to par of other hotels we stayed at in Rajasthan but was OK.

What we felt really let this hotel down was the room we stayed in. It was on the second floor and was extremely generous in size, with the lovely huge old wooden door with chunky bolt and padlock that you see in these old Maharajah palaces. There was an anti-room with sofa, tiled floor and a welcome note with a wax seal. The main room was again huge with just a few pieces of furniture so it seemed a little stark. Perhaps the strangest item was this absolutely massive, free-standing air-conditioning unit, the likes of which we had never seen before. It was really noisy and powerful so while it kept the room cool, it also made sleep somewhat challenging. After this was a strange lobby-like area leading to a huge bathroom. There were lots of changes in floor level through these rooms and the doors did not align so visiting the bathroom after dark was a little hazardous. The bathroom was just not up to scratch at all. There was a shower over the bath but the bath was cheap and plastic and positively buckled when we stood inside. There were not enough towels or toiletries and the air conditioning did not extend here so it was absolutely boiling. There was a ceiling fan but it took an age to feel the effect given the vast size of the room. There was a door to the outside from the bathroom and I thought it would open up to a balcony. It did. However the balcony was occupied by the external unit of the air conditioning unit which was super noisy. I thought it was a great shame that this was not an area that could be used. There was nothing terribly wrong with this room but I didn't feel the conversion from palace to hotel had been done very sympathetically, unlike other old palaces we stayed in (eg Samode Haveli in Jaipur, Rawla Narlai in Narlai and Lake Palace in Udaipur).

So, we would stay here again depending on price and would generally recommend it but it was our favourite hotel.

I went to celebrate my first wedding anniversary and had a memorable stay. Though, to start with paying close to $200 for one night and getting no pick up/drop facility from the hotel was not great service but entering the hotel would take your breath away. Lakshmi Niwas is gigantic, its a PALACE in real life. The room which we stayed was Royal Deluxe and the room gave you the feel of the aristrocracy enjoyed by the Maharajas . The Palace itself has a history and a lot to see inside.

The staff was friendly , cordial and helped us in getting Taxi (mind you the local three wheelers are termed as Taxi there and cabs as cars) as well as managing a car for us. The bargain from the hotel was quite expensive. The driver, Deleep was a professional and was able to take us to a trip to Bikaner (he also knew from where you can get good artefacts and food items at reasonable price). He works independantly and charges nominal rates if contacted via the hotel.

The dinner was OK and so was the breakfast (not wholesome though).

The palace is beautiful and very well maintained. The room huge and the toliets clean. Bikaner stay is not more that two days covering the Junagarh fort, the Karni Mata Mandir (the famous mouse temple) , the Jain temple .

Since my connecting train to Jaisalmer was late in the night, the hotel was accomodating in keeping my luggage in the bagage counter when I was busy visiting the Karni mata Temple.

The folk dance and song show was amazing. Must a see.

Thanks for the stay.

Rameshwar Nigam

We spent only one night here unfortunately. The whole property is amazing and you feel like a royalty here. The manager upgraded is to a palace room, which made out experience even more unforgettable. The restaurant serves great food and the service is of a really high standard. A bit of humidity in the rooms, perhaps because we were here during one of the coldest nights of the winter.

I stayed sat this hotel for a week in a “historical” room. A week wasn’t long enough, but was sufficient to leave a lasting memory! I stayed for work but would like to come back with my children.
I made friends with Surendra and the restaurant manager (I am not sure of the spelling of his name), the chefs, and manager; they took excellent care of me and I felt very comfortable. The rooms are incredible, in the morning you can hear the sounds of the peacocks!
The good is indescribable! Locally there are camel rides, shops, festivals, and forts. This place is a must to experience.
