Our stay at Mickey Homestay was wonderful. The location is perfect - you can easily walk into town to the shops and there are lots of lovely restaurants and cafes (Chrissie’s - great breakfast with homemade jams and lovely staff, Grandma’s Cafe - large menu with lots of lovely dishes, Spice Garden - lovely setting and food, Coffee Garden - relaxing among the trees, and Ambadi - more formal with so many rich and flavoursome dishes) just a few minutes away. Sujatha and Murali are so warm and welcoming and were able to help us arrange lots of activities like a tour around the tea plantation, spice garden and activities in Periyar National Park. The room was charming and the balcony was our favourite part - especially the swinging chair! We would recommend staying here to anyone and we would love to come back one day! Mickey Homestay is the perfect place to stay in Kumily - Thank you!

We stayed at Micky’s Homestay for three nights. The rooms were clean but basic so exactly what we paid for. We were welcomed warmly being shown to our room after arriving unannounced, explained our budget and were given room prices accordingly.
The Homestay manager organised our border trek and even took us to the office to book it, taking no commission. The owner offered tea and coffee whenever we needed it and helped us with journey plans.
Micky’s is situated on a quite back road of Kumily where there are restaurants and cafes.
If you are looking for clean and friendly place to stay this is it!

Stayed for 3 nights in the budget double room which was good value for money. The location is great, very central but quiet.
The star of the show is Suja, now my Indian mother! They are a fairly hands off host couple but happy to help when needed and we shared coffee and tea with them in the evening, learning about local life, making friends with the cat and having a laugh. We would come back again for the company if nothing else.
Around sunset sit on the balcony and watch the bats fly overhead.

When you enter, you'll be shown the room, and then forgotten. No water. No checking if you need anything. No helping with sight-seeing. My expectations from a homestay was very different! If you want food, you can walk across to hotels on the opposite lane. If you're having a hard time with the mosquitoes, you deal with it, while "maalkin" relaxes on her porch with her fly-swatter.

Great place to stay in Periyar! The owners are some of the most friendly and lovely people I have ever met. Our room was spacious and clean and the location is within walking distance (5 minutes) to the office of Periyar Wildlife Reserve. Important ingformation: The owners can also help you with booking the overnight "Periyar tiger trail" or any other activity in the park in advance - which is otherwise very hard to do by yourself since the park does not have online reservations and there are only 6 spots per overnight trek. Would definitely return!

There are 4 rooms. All rooms have a private balcony (the 3 upstairs rooms) or a private veranda (the downstairs room). All rooms have private bathrooms, either attached (3 of the rooms, where you enter the bathroom through at door in the bedroom) or separate (1 of the rooms, where you have to exit the bedroom and cross a common areas to get to the bathroom. A walking distance of 2 metres). The room that has the private but separate bathroom is the room with balcony that can be seen upstairs on the photos of the house. The other three rooms are behind the house, two of them in a separate cottage.
