We spent 3 nights at Villa Camelot in January at the start of our 2 month visit to India, followed by 1 last night at the end of our trip, in March. It couldn't have been a better beginning and ending to what was a truly fabulous 2 months spent travelling around Karnataka. This was largely because of the fabulous hospitality we received from our hosts, Yahmini, Raghuveer and their 8 year old son Dhairya.
The house is very spacious and situated in a little oasis of calm in a suburb of Bangalore - Whitefield, which is about a 45 minute drive from the airport. Our room was really comfortable and quiet which meant we could get some much needed sleep in the middle of the day following the long flight from the UK.
Yahmini and Raghu are so friendly and personable and a mine of information - whatever your needs. They will go out of their way to help with any practicalities - which in our case meant getting a mobile Sim and Dongle sorted out. Not as easy as it sounds!! However with Yahmini at our side at the Airtel office sorting things out for us we were successful and endlessly grateful to her throughout our trip whenever WIFI was hard to find.
Villa Camelot has a number of long term guests who work in Bangalore but live in other parts of India which are too far away to commute to and fro every day. They come together at mealtimes for food and chat, sharing stories from the day, with each other and Yahmini and Raghu. We were delighted to become part of this friendly family style atmosphere and enjoy good conversation and banter with them. It is a great thing to be part of and really helped us to start to understand "real" India.
During our stay, Raghu prepared lots of fabulous homecooked meals and both he and Yahmini shared tips and advice on Indian cooking for us to take home with us. Now all we have to do is put it into practice!
Bangalore city centre is approx 45 minute bus ride from Whitefield but the volume of traffic driving into the city means this could take longer. Nevertheless the pleasure of staying with Yahmini and Raghu more than outweighs any benefit of staying in the congested and busy city centre. It is a joy to come back to at the end of a busy day's sightseeing.
In the short time that we stayed at Villa Camelot we forged a real friendship with our hosts and are still in touch with them now we are back in UK. It is a testament to their warmth and welcoming manner that we will only ever choose to stay at Villa Camelot on any subsequent visits to Bangalore
