My wife and I stayed here for our anniversary, I was a little worried as we had never stayed at a B&B before, but everything was great. Chris did a great job working with me to get us a room. I only gave him a couple days notice, which was my own fault but he shuffled his own schedule around to make sure my wife and I were taken care of. We had a great time and plan on staying here again in the future.
We had a such a great time staying at A Different B & B..... even though it was only a 40 minute drive from our house. :)
Chris, the host, has created such a lovely, relaxing atmosphere - we quickly felt right at home. We looooved the hot tub and will definitely come back in the summer to hang out by the beautiful pool.
We played cards in the spacious living room and read, exactly what I needed to unplug and recharge. Dinner in Ann Arbor at Jolly Pumpkin was great too.
We can't wait to come back!
We heard about this place from some friends who were in Ann Arbor a while back for a college graduation, and recommended it. My wife and I found it very pleasant and relaxing. The house is spacious, unique and comfortable. Easy to relax in. The outdoor hot tub was clean and a nice plus. Bedroom was spacious and the bed was very comfortable (we had the room closest to the front door). Chris (the owner) is a very pleasant fellow and also had a good sense for our wishes for privacy. We needed to leave early in the morning, and he had a tasty yogurt and fruit smoothie ready for us. I would go back.
My wife and I spent a weekend at “A Different B&B” as part of a trip to visit relatives nearby. Initially we weren’t certain about this B&B but there weren’t a lot of options in the immediate Ann Arbor area and I was intrigued by the “Difference” as well as what appeared to be a rural location within the city limits. It was very easy booking the reservation on-line, and the proprietor’s directions made this secluded home easy to drive to from Metro Detroit.
The home is a very modern, very cool single floor residence with an enormous living-dining room, ample bathroom facilities (3?) a swimming pool (that I could see but was closed – this is January in Michigan after all), and a great hot tub overlooking the Huron River that DID get a lot of use. The place was clean. One of the "Differences" is that it's not the sterile, hotel-in-a-Victorian-house kind of setting; the owner's here, the kitchen is shared, if there's anything you want in the fridge you're free to help yourself. If you want to cook or grill - have at it. It was as if you were a housemate gather than just a guest. The bed was super-comfortable and I’m not one to notice such things but the sheets seemed extraordinarily soft; my wife agreed.
I do think the best part of our stay was the owner – Chris Brooks. We enjoy running, especially trails. When I mentioned this to Chris, he told us of the extensive trail network throughout Ann Arbor that he runs and asked if we’d like to accompany him. Well, that 2 ½ hours was outstanding! We really appreciated discovering the hidden gems of trails that were Chris’ usual haunts. It was post-running that the hot tub sucked up 3 hours of our time along with the bottles of wine our host provided us.
Sunday morning we were up and departed early for Mass and the rest of the trip but not before a delicious breakfast smoothie and coffee with Chris in the hot tub (again)!
If my travel plans bring me back for a stay in the Ann Arbor area, I’ll be certain to look up this Different B&B again.
