We were there in late December 2014, so there weren't many people in the hostel, which I think was part of the reason things were so calm in the hostel. The staff was helpful (just 2 dudes that I know of) and gave us directions on everywhere we wanted to go. There was also a little calico kitten there that was a blast to play with, but heed caution if you have an allergy to cats, because it is a tiny hostel and this is unavoidable. They love basketball, which is pretty awesome. The common room is a little small, but the bedrooms are just fine. Don't sit upright quickly on the bottom bunk or you'll bash your head! best part of the bedrooms? There are outlets for every bed. There is also a great restaurant right next to the hostel. Go there.
It was my first time in Belgrade. I came as a walk-in since the hostel is located in the city center so most off the monuments, sight seeings and clubs are close by. What can I say. A really nice little hostel, very clean, free wi-fi, free towels, lockers, hot water as much as you like and a very cosy living room. I`ve stayed in a ten bed dorm for a really cheap price, around 10 €. But the most important thing I should mentioned is that Đorđe and Nikola (the receptionists) had put lots of effort to make me feel like home. Would definitely recommend Star hostel. I know I`ll stay there the next time I come back.
I'm passing through Belgrade every now&then, and every time i stay in this hostel, because it's kind of all-you-can-possibly-need place! It's in the quite part of the Belgrade downtown, so the sleeping quality is fairly good, and it's very close to all the sites(and clubs, which makes the crawling back at night easy). There is a spacious and wicked cool common room where is easy to meet other people, and there are things like darts, cards and even X-box and HUGE lcd telly, which makes this place so appealing. Also, the staff is always there to help and to warm up the atmosphere by giving away some free drinks, Gotta love the place!
I had come to their former hostel in 2007 when the owner helped me to organise accommodation for a big group of fellow students and I didn't miss the opportunity to stay here again. It's safe, clean, well located for the sights and the staff are helpful, but what makes this hostel special is that the owners treat you as their friends - they'll share their rakija, stories, music and time with you. As they create a great atmosphere in the common areas, even solo travellers don't feel awkward hanging out there and it's a great place to chill or meet some people to go and party with. These days I could have afforded a night in a faceless chain hotel but why watch TV alone in your room nibbling room service food when you can hang out with Belgraders in Belgrade?
I have just returned from a great stay at Star Hostel, and am quite shocked to read some of the negative reviews on here about it. Granted, the place does not have the most modern sparkling facilities, but if you are expecting that then you should probably up your budget and stay in a 4* hotel instead...
The facilities here are more than adequate and the dorms pretty clean and spacious, especially compared to some hostels, there is a decent kitchen with an actual oven (rather than a hot plate) and the common room is cosy and welcoming. The security is good, and everyone has a decent sized locker. The location is perfect for exploring the city - everything downtown is within walking distance and if you want to go further/are lazy public transport is easily accessible.
As an added bonus, and the thing that makes this better than a lot of other hostels, the staff here are super friendly experts on Belgrade who actually care if you enjoy your time in the city or not. They will give you a whole host of recommendations of things to do, places to eat and drink etc etc.
Thanks for a great stay guys, I'll be back for sure!
