I cannot find words big enough to express my gratitude for wonderful time I've always had at AUTOR. For years it has been my favorite hideout in Lima, Miraflores. It is not just a hotel, it honestly FEELS. - LIKE. - HOME. Guys, seriously. This is your place. If you want to live in the heart of southamerican capital city but at the same time you like to stay in connection with southamerican history and andean spirit - please, please, please book a room in AUTOR!
Breakfast was wonderful, tasty and fresh, served by kind people with smile and politeness. Morning peaceful time at AUTOR was always perfect way to start a day! The hotel itself is situated in a quiet courtyard with closed gate and security, which makes you feel safe at every hour. 2 months ago they even opened a small restaurant within the same courtyard just opposite the hotel, so you can grab some seafood or other peruvian dish without even going out of the secured area. The hotel is full of stylish decor, very inspiring, packed with precolumbian pottery and andean artifacts. Some of the rooms have balconies, additionally there is a nice terrace for everyone at the very top of the building. The owner is the nicest person you'll ever meet, always ready to help, genuinely concerned about his guests. His positive attitude is reflected by each member of the staff. In my opinion this is called true professionalism and deserves recognition- you can't always buy that , even in expensive chain-branded hotels.
If you like to get a better insight in the history and feel atmosphere of this magical place, either if you're exclusively in Lima or if it's just a stopover before heading further to MachuPicchu - you have to pay a visit in AUTOR.
You know what they say - Once AUTOR, always AUTOR :)
One can play with words as much as they want calling their lodging proposal a hotel, a B&B, a hostel, a home, a hometel, glamping, etc... when clients (ie someone who pays) are charged almost 200 usd/night, they are entitled to have expectations.
Autor is indeed a home converted in somewhat of a B&B (bed is in a room but breakfast is in the garage) and is clearly NOT a hotel.
For 80 to 100 USD max/night, all would be fine but at 190+/night this is just outrageously expensive and almost insulting for all the good hotels for Lima which for that price are 5 stars (we stayed at Hotel B for 220 USD/night and its nowhere comparable).
Autor clearly has excellent press and one can really wonder if Cntraveller and other publications step foot in this property... we were clearly mislead by these publications which put it alongside other, qualitative boutique HOTELS.
To sum up :
- Average location (if you are in Lima for 2/3 days, there is nothing particular to see in Miraflores except the sea above a hill) but there are some restaurants nearby even though I would recommend much more Barranco or San Isidro
- Average property which is starting to be old
- Average cleanliness
At the right price why not, at the current price, NO WAY
Autor tries hard not to be like other hotels and it pays off. From check-in to check-out you feel more like you're staying with a friend who happens to have a place in central Miraflores. The breakfast was delicious - best omelette we had the entire trip in Peru - and service was friendly without being overwhelming.
Both the balcony room we stayed in and the common areas are well appointed and we loved the little rooftop terrace for drinking a bottle of store-bought wine before we went out for dinner in the evenings.
We stayed one night in this lovely and charming B&B right in the heart of miraflores.
The location is highly convenient with many cafes and restaurants around. It is all easily accessible by car and public transport.
The hotel offered a true home-feel to our stay. The room was spacious and very well decorated. The bathroom is top notch. There are only for bedrooms so it is quite intimate.
The breakfast was filling and tasty- especially the avocado toast and fruit salad.
Flexible and friendly service.
We had a lovely stay overall, highly recommended
Upon our arrival both the proprietors, Diane & Andy came out to the drive to welcome us. This friendliness and caring continued throughout our stay. Our ensuite room was clean, freshly decorated , and tastefully furnished with a very comfortable quality bed. The breakfast with a wide selection was delicious, included local produce and eggs from their own free range chickens. There are many places of interest to visit within easy reach such as Gooderstone Water Gardens and Oxbrough Hall. We would return again and recommend this excellent b&b without hesitation.
