We had a private room that was what I would expect from a hostel - decent beds and space. The bathroom was pretty large! The common area has a great view of the city, and I LOVED the cat who lives at this hostel - he was so, so sweet! Staff were very kind and helpful. The hostel is walking distance to many key places in Cusco.
We had the ensuite double room for four nights and it was basic and had everything we needed. The radiator was a great plus for heat and the bed was pretty comfortable. Shower had great pressure and was piping hot. Wifi was fast. The views from the room (second floor) were gorgeous and it was a good way to stay fit since it's up a ways. The staff was nice and helpful. For the price, it's a great place to be.
I stayed twice at this hostel and was never disappointed. Firstly, the views of Cusco are spectacular at any time of the day and the Hostel has access to a sweeping array of them! I had a double room on the second floor with an en-suite bathroom. Everything was comfortably laid out and easy to navigate. The heating was perfect and the shower had great pressure! I was really impressed with the staff, who were readily available to help you out in anyway possible. Laundry, directions, Taxis etc. There’s a common lounge in one part of the hostel which leads onto a large deck where again you get those great views. Good Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities everywhere and a small breakfast room. Snacks are available for purchase. There’s also a kitchen which you are invited to use should you need to. The hostal is situated in San Blas which is a neighbourhood full of Artisan boutiques, cozy coffee shops and beautifully designed courtyard restaurants with small winding cobbled streets where you see locals and their way of life. Highly recommend Hostel Samay Wasi!
Really great stay at Samay Wasi. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and en-suite bathroom was a real treat. Stunning breakfasts on the terrace - I’d definitely recommend the eggs if bread and jam gets a bit samey.
We also met James who momentarily put aside his love for Boris Johnson to help us book a great day at Maras Moray.
Samay Wasi hostels was exactly like depicted. No more, no less. It help when planning. Room were comfortable and the view on Cuzco is amazing. Good location to be out of the crowd and noise. Watch out when eating a big supper... The walk up can be intense if too full. From the hostel, sacksaywaman is just a short walk away. Do not miss it.
We met James Aguilar at the hostel. He acted as a trip planning facilitator which helped a lot. He speak perfect English and French and was an important part of why we liked so much Cuzco. Ask for him if you can.
We are two French Canadian who were in a couple backpacking trip. The hostel and the help we got are part of the reason why Cuzco was an highlight of this trip.
Bon voyage!
