The welcome staff was awesome with a welcome drink. Masai men pulled my luggage to the honeymoon suite ( take note, I am travelling solo). They brief me of the lodge and the surroundings. I would say that the Masai staff were all courteous and friendly. Food was good. I had two nights to stay but ended up with just one due to the heavy rain. So sad, my honeymoon suite was flooded. One masai man carried my backpack while the other one carried me. What an experience. They woke me up that morning to let me know that the place is flooded. So sad this happened. But I would say that the staff ensured that the guests were taken care of. While waiting for my guide/driver to pick me up, I just took pictures of the camp. Kasoi, the waiter and now he was my driver/tour guide drove me to another lodge. But first, he went game driving to view the beautiful animals at the Mara.
We stayed at the Mara Leisure Camp for 4 nights in the first week of October for our honeymoon, and we had the most fantastic time.
When we arrived the staff were there ready to greet us with a warm welcome. The camp is fairly small so it’s nice to be somewhere more compact and where the staff are able to learn and remember everything about their guests. They take pride in their jobs, and every staff member was accommodating and friendly.
We stayed in a deluxe room and it was clean and well sized. Being on safari you don’t spend much time in there other than to sleep anyway! The hotel have a good process of saving power so it gets turned off at points during the day, so make sure any cameras/phones etc are charged and ready to go. All the information is in the book in the room and at reception.
The bar area is nice with a good selection of drinks, and a special mention to Jeff who provided us with entertainment and Tusker throughout our stay! Great staff member and great at his role.
The restaurant ambience is lovely and food wise they have some good selections. The staff work mornings, afternoons and evenings and are just so friendly and approachable; they are some of the best we encountered during our trip. Thanks to Nicline, Maurine and Joseph especially for always checking up on us and engaging constantly with us during our time at the camp. On our last night they sang us a classic Kenyan song and presented us with a cake as we were celebrating and it was such a wonderful touch!
Overall the camp is a great choice to stay in- they look after their guests amazingly and we were lucky enough to see the mischievous monkeys on a few occasions whilst sitting on the deck too!
Thank you everyone at Mara Leisure Camp, hopefully we can return one day!
We stayed for three nights and overall had an amazing time. Mainly because of Dan, our Masai game driver, who was able to show us 'The Big 5' plus lots of other amazing wildlife. He always managed to get us to the right place at the right time for the best viewing spot.
The Camp had a rather dusty and dark feel, and our room was not very clean, but despite this, we had a great time.
We loved this place. I know our safari guide, Ken had something to do with it. He frequents this place a lot and it's obvious how much the employees here admire and respect him. That being said, he told someone that I was there for my birthday and the hotel had gluten free flour flown in so they could make me a cake. Pretty unbelievable.
The reasons why I liked this place so much:
*The people are so nice
*The food was plentiful, we weren't stuck with a prefix menu (which is hard when you have dietary restrictions)
*I felt very taken care of
*I got to spend time by the pool
*We were so close to nature (and I was chased to my room by velvet monkeys #funnynotfunny)
What I didn't like was the mere fact that we were remote so the internet was not that strong, but I couldn't believe we'd have internet in the Masai Mara anyhow.
This is a great place to be for safari. You roll out of bed and BAM, it's like you're already right there. As soon as the gates open and you drive out, you are automatically in the Masai Mara and seeing the wildlife.
Loved this place and all of the people and food!
This was our last stop on Safari. We stayed for three days.
From the get go we were warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Check-in was quick and efficient. We were escorted to our rooms by a porter with a torch to light the way.
Our tent overlooked the river. There was no shortage of entertainment to be had in watching the monkeys scampering through the trees and crossing back and forth. Plenty of wildlife could be heard during the night which all added to the atmosphere.
The room was spacious with good mosquito netting and ample bottled water to drink. The water for the shower was hot and maintained its pressure.
Meals were buffet style with plenty of options. Dessert was our favourite! The waiters were attentive and remembered our preferred beverages. The packed breakfast and lunches we were provided with to take out on safari were generous in their content and variety.
Everyone was incredibly friendly. They chatted to us about our safari excursions for the day and were genuinely interested in our adventures. Loved the Maasai dancing and the opportunity to join in!
Reception happily accommodated our early checkout (the night before) when we decided to do a balloon safari on the final day and had to leave before dawn.
Would happily stay here again.
