The Hotel Barmoi is an okay place to stay, especially by Sierra Leone standards. It has two pools and a restaurant/bar on site. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and contain a double bed, armoire, drawers, desk and micro fridge. The bathroom contains a sink, toilet, and bath/shower combination. The water is hot especially in the mornings. The room is air conditioned and you can control the temperature controlled. The bathroom is not air conditioned and is often quite humid. The restaurant is open throughout the day. Breakfast, which was included in our room rate, is a mix of fruits, meats, other local specialities, crepes (pancakes) and cereals. Juice. water. coffee and tea are also served free of charge. Lunches start at about $1.00 USD (10,000 Leones) and go up. The food is well prepared and quite tasty. The dinner menu contains a mixture of local dishes and foreign meals. I recommend the beans stew, which comes with either beef, chicken or fish and a side of steamed rice. The portions are ample and very tasty. The rate for my room was $90 USD per night which is very competitive for this level of hotel in Freetown.
I give it 5 stars for location, very nice people and good service.
The facilities with room, pools, breakfast is absolutely satisfying. You will remember this hotel, not like all the 100 others you dont remember because they are just alike.
And if you need a very nice and safe taxi driver I recommend CeNa Taxi Nathaniel Marsh 030061344
Not a good start when I arrived after a very long journey late in the evening and there was no water in my room. I asked for some and it was promised but never came. The room smelt a bit mouldy and the remote for the aircon didn't work and I could not reach the aircon on the wall so was very cold in the middle of the night and couldn not turn the aircon down. The toilter seat was broken. The restaurant smells strongly of used cooking oil. Not even any freshly brewed coffee for breakfast, just Nescafe sachets. This is not a hotel worth more than $100 US per night at all! Glad I'm only here for one night. On the plus side wifi works and the bed was comfortable.
This was my second trip to Freetown but the first time I have stayed at the Barmoi and I loved it. At first I was unsure about the location not being more central but it worked out great.
Firstly the staff are very attentive and friendly, the manager, Nathaniel is great to speak to.
The facilities are good with great air con, we had a twin room overlooking the sea, there is also a two room suite, (which we are considering when we return in Oct) and a Presidential suite.
The restaurant is of a good size with the option of also eating outdoors.Breakfasts are great.
There are two pools and a fitness room as well.
Despite arriving early in the morning there was no problem about booking in, they also do a Sea Coach ferry pickup as well.
We have stayed in numerous places in Sierra Leone but we will definitely return here later this year.
Very nice attentive staff, great food (I tried all the local dishes), nice clean room (nr 24) with sea view, 2 pools and close to the beach. Manager always around and on top of everything. Hope to be back!
