Our family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 teens - spent 3 nights here on a recent visit. We stayed in the Captain's residence which was a great size, with each of us having a bedroom. The inside of the room / apartment was lovely, with modern bathrooms and kitchen. But the huge draw for this place was the terrace with gorgeous views overlooking the ocean, and we didn't spend much time inside at all.
We loved everything about our stay - the pool, the nearby rocky coastline where we could swim in the beautiful clear water. The small town of Zavala had a few restaurants, and overall it made for a very relaxing stay. Teo is an incredible host - he was a wealth of information, and had great suggestions for us along the way. He also arranged a private boat tour with Toby which was a highlight of our trip. Before we arrived, we thought we would explore either by renting a car or bikes, but after seeing the nearby roads, that are very narrow and hilly, we quickly realized that wasn't going to happen. But it didn't matter, as we wanted to spend our time relaxing by the pool or in the ocean. Also, Teo was able to help us get anywhere we wanted to go, and he had great suggestions of things to do as well. We spent one afternoon in Hvar town, which was nice, but we couldn't wait to get back to Stella Mare! We hope to come back sometime soon. Also, Teo's wine from the winery right there is the best we had on the island.
Top-notch personalized service coupled with a peaceful, serene atmosphere. We loved the ultra modern, beautiful infinity pool with panoramic views of the sea and vineyards. Our room was so clean, comfortable and luxurious with a balcony, an amazing view of the pool and sea, stargazing at night, and then gushing over the reflection of the glorious full moon on the calm waves below. The restaurant offers delicious, home-style dishes, a selection of local wines and the breakfast buffet is just perfection, as well. A hop and skip down the way, there’s a majestic string of pebbled beaches and coves with crystal turquoise waters to enjoy. Do yourself a favor and indulge in this incredible paradise getaway!
My husband and I had a very relaxing, enjoyable 3-day stay at Villa Stella Mare. Although we had booked the Argola Garden Studio, we were given a free upgrade to the Timun Terrace Suite, a 2 bedroom apartment with a large seaview terrace. The apartment was very comfortable and clean, and the view from the terrace was amazing.
We ate breakfast and dinner at Villa Stella Mare all 3 days, and the food was plentiful and excellent. At dinner, there was a choice of a meat or fish menu. Eating outdoors with a gentle breeze and views of vineyards and orchards in addition to the sea and distant islands, made the meals even more enjoyable.
Teo, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, giving us suggestions for our other stops in Croatia. Villa Stella Mare is a short walk from the beach, and is situated along a beautiful stretch of coast. I would definitely stay at Villa Stella Mare again, and I highly recommend it.
We have just returned from a lovely relaxing week’s holiday at Stella Mare in Zavala. Teo and his family cannot be faulted for their hospitality and it is a bonus they speak English (and German, Italian and Russian) very well. We stayed at the Argola apartment and although the room is very basic it does have a comfortable bed and airconditioning. Our apartment came with a lovely terrace surrounded by gorgeous smelling rosemary and with stunning views over the sea and beautifully kept gardens. There is an area with swing seats and hammock and a hot tub area is under development. We catered for breakfast and lunch ourselves by visiting the bakery and a small supermarket up the road. It is advisable to take a dishcloth, washing up liquid and tea towel if you intend to cater for yourself. Cleaning of the apartment is on request only but they are happy to accommodate. We did have dinner at Stella Mare quite a few times and the outdoor vine covered restaurant area is the best we’ve seen in Zavala and is beautifully lit at night.
Zavala is a quiet area and unless you have a car it is not that easy to get around as it is very hilly. It is a perfect spot for relaxation but not if you’re after a big nightlife and a choice of many eateries. I was content relaxing on the lounger under the dappled shade of the vines but many people visit the rocky coves for some full on sun. I would advise you take reef shoes and some sort of padding to lie on as the pebble beaches are not that forgiving.
All in all I recommend this lovely family run place highly.
We cannot fault Stella Mare - Theo and his family were hospitality itself and went far more than the extra mile with their kindness, home grown or caught food, delicious wine & superb breakfasts, and our room was simple, clean and bright, with a fabulous view over Zavala Bay.
