Three night stay at Lakes Resort. Not located that close to town so a car is a must but be ready for narrow streets and really tight parks. There are also no lifts so again be prepared for stairs. That aside we were happy with our one bedroom unit. Exceptionally clean and with everything we needed. It is a Florida-style condo gated complex with what looks like a mix of rental properties and full time residents. Pools looked nice (too cold for a swim) and grounds really well tended. A bit of early morning aircraft noise (from 0630) but otherwise very quiet. Would stay here again.
Stayed in 2 bedroom unit which was HUGE & also had HUGE balcony overlooking one of the four pools.
It is a gated secure accomm & feels like a little village community within itself.
Reception staff friendly & helpful. Situated about 10 min drive from CBD & walking distance to a few shops eg. Fish & chips chemist subway bakery bank post office newsagent Doctor. Bustop also walking distance & so are Botanical gardens.
Only negative is when u lay by pool & sit on balcony ... you get bitten by mozzies & sandflies as located right near Mangroves ...this made for unpleasant experience & got had bites all over the next day ...so bring insect repellent & put on when outside in The Lakes ...thats what I went & bought & after that laying by pool was fine BUT remember to keep applying or you will be bitten.
We loved the Lakes Resort. The pools are fabulous, the grounds are gorgeous and beautifully cared for, the 3-bedroom apartment had a lanai that was just lovely. Everything was clean, and the rooms were very spacious and sunlit. The kitchen was stocked with all needed appliances and dishes. The staff were all very helpful. Close to the main street. The Taste of Thai restaurant on the premises is top notch. The menu is quite varied, food is delicious and beautifully presented, service impeccable. They serve a fantastic breakfast with a variety of choices, all prepared fresh, as well as lunch and dinner. Highly recommend. We stayed 6 nights and wish we could have stayed longer.
Great place to stay if you are looking for self catering apartment's, haven't seen all the pools in Cairns but would say the ones at the Lakes would have to be right up there lots to choose from too
We stayed a week and although the apartments are a little dated now for a family of 5 the 3 bedroom apartment we stayed in was perfect for us
The staff at reception are accommodating and friendly , there is a restaurant and bar on site which is handy, a short stroll out the front is an IGA express( open till 11pm daily ) and a pizza fish n chip shop so lots of options to pick up snacks. Pools are open to guests till 10pm each night which is great its the best time to swim splash and relax just after the sun sets Very short trip from airport which but a little out from Cairns central and day trips to the reef and islands , costs about $15-$20 cab ride into Cairns
If you love tropical gardens the resort literally backs onto the Cairns botanical gardens which are well worth a stroll through
If you are a family want to self cater love to relax buy the pool with a BBQ lunch or dinner this is the place
As many have said there is only stairs up to the three floors of each of the apartment blocks. so if you have any mobility impairments you might want to check your going to be on the ground floor first
There is also a tour desk at reception to help you out with all you day trips
All said The Lakes is a great accommodation option in Cairns
We only had a short two days, but the Lakes ticked all the boxes. Good location close to airport and city. Good restaurant and bar on site plus they deliver to your suite. Well appointed unit with all the mod cons required in a self contained apartment. Only shortcoming would be how tight the car parking is under the buildings.
