We are two 55+ couples from the US and recently returned from a five night stay in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with lots of Tuscan country charm. Our hosts went above and beyond with accomodating our needs, going as far as helping us by speaking Italian to the airlines while trying to locate our lost luggage, letting us know our car lights were on and even wrapping up dinner for 4 when (and putting it in our refrigerator) we couldn't get there in time to enjoy their Saturday evening dinner. We were very happy to enjoy the dinner the next night!
The grounds are lovely, well kept and very relaxing. We enjoyed the pool on a very hot afternoon and dined a second night under the Tuscan stars. The food is delicious and could not have been more perfect. We had one semi-picky eater and he was quite pleased.
The apartments are just like pictured on the website but seemed a little bigger in person. We had a small patio by our front door where we enjoyed morning coffee and evening wine. The location is about a mile on a dirt road but a very pretty drive. It's about 10 mionutes into San Gimignano where one can shop and dine.
I urge anyone to take the less beaten path and venture on the backroads to the smaller Tuscan towns. There's a lot to see in Tuscany and Il Borghetto is the perfect home base (and affordable too).
We visited Tuscany as part of an Italian trip to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We chose Il Borghetto mainly for its close location to San Gigminano but little did we know that it would exceed our expectations.
It’s located midway between Florence & Siena and a very short drive to San Gimignano and it’s a perfect base to explore Chianti and surrounding northern Tuscany.
We stayed in a self-catering 1 bedroom apartment with a spacious loft, sitting area & kitchen. The bedroom is huge which is a nice change from the tiny hotel rooms in Italy. Unfortunately, our apt. didn’t have a private terrace or patio but there are plenty of patios and sitting areas thorough out the beautiful property. There is also a very nice pool area but beware it’s not heated. I’m sure in the summer the water feels very refreshing.
Breakfast is not included but you can order a fresh croissant or roll the night before & they make coffee and cappuccino on the premises. They also have 2 dinners a week which are home cooked by the family and they also have an excellent wine selection. What makes these dinners so special & memorable are the romantic setting, the beautiful views and the fantastic service provided by the family.
Unfortunately, we only stayed 3 nights so we didn’t have time to attend their cooking class and we would have loved spending more time at the villa enjoying the beautiful grounds.
Simona, Sandra, Niccola and Ricardo are amazing hosts and made our stay very memorable. We highly recommend this property and hope to come back & stay a little longer.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 day stay at Il Borghetto. The accomodation is amazing, beautifully furnished rooms and an amazing pool to swim and relax after a day of sightseeing.Sandra and her lovely husband were amazing hosts who made our holiday with our teenage girls a memorable experience. We were recommended by friends to stay at this villa and would thoroughly recommend this beautiful property. We were spoilt with wonderful meals overlooking the vineyards and loved sharing coffee and Torta Della Nonna on the terrace.San Gimignano is a short drive from the property and is worth visiting during the day and experiencing the medieval magic at night. We hope to return and experience this amazing Tuscan paradise in the near future.
Tuscany lives up to every story told, about its beauty, the golden varm light, narrow roads, wine and excellent food.
And tons of tourists, especially at the major spots.
What better then, to stay at Il Borghetto right in the middle of peaceful vineyards and stunning scenery. Quiet mornings enjoying the sunrise with your cup of cappucino or healthy mornings exercising your calves in climbing the surrounding wineyards, do your workout under the olive trees and finish with a swim in the pool.
Sit on the terrace with a glass of wine and enjoy the most amazing sunsets I have ever seen. Then the moon rises, and we were lucky to stay there during a full moon. Speechless.
The apartments are spacious with everything you need, very clean and all with their own flair.
The hospitality is one of a kind, we felt like visiting close friends. Assisting any need, answering any question, sorting out bookings for activities and giving excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area. Your luggage is collected from and brought back to your car - how often does that happen these days.
Then the dinner at the terrace, cooked by the family mama. Authentic tuscan food, excellently cooked. Served by the amazing family staff, with a smile and a personal service. The wine cellar is good too.
We took some great photos at Il Borgehtto, and every time I look at them my heart is warm and I feel the longing to go back. One day I will.
A tip is from Poggibonsi to choose the longer road SP 127 and Via Cortennano, as it gives you some stunning views and good photo spots of San Gimiganano. Worth the detour.
This was our 11th time to stay in Il Borghetto in the past 12 years. Why do we return so often? First, of course, is the hospitality of the owners, Sandra, her brother Riccardo and spouses Nicola and Simona, who are the perfect hosts. Their committment to making each guest's stay memorable is exceptional. From suggesting sites to visit, giving directions, advising about restaurants, and making reservations to being helpful in dozens of ways, they are truly outstanding. Second is the location; located midway between Florence and Siena, it is the perfect home base to explore the Tuscan region. The villa itself rests on a hill surrounded by vineyards and amid olive and cypress trees, with a spectacular view of the adjacent valley. It is a short drive to the lovely town of San Gimignano, and the amazingly scenic Chanti Road is not far away. There are dozens of small towns that are worthwhile to visit within easy driving distance. Next is the food! Three nights a week Mamma Silvana prepares a gourmet Tuscan feast at the villa. These meals are not to be missed. The villa has a selection of the finest wines of the Tuscan region selected by Sandra and Nicola who are sommeliers. Cooking classes at the villa are another experience that you do not want to miss. It is an ideal spot to tour as much as you like or to relax and enjoy the swimming pool. the quiet, and the magnificent scenery. We have returned so often because it is indeed Paradise!
