We were very happy to have stayed at this beautiful Tuscan Villa during our 17 day tour of Italy. We stayed in one of their spacious apartments with a full kitchen. We were told to arrive before dark, because Simona was worried we wouldn’t find it and she was right! The villa is up a dirt road, nestled in the Tuscan hillside. It was quiet and very peaceful, as well as a home base to visit nearby Siena, Florence and San Gimignano. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and fabulous wine in a cozy room (which may have been a wine cellar at some point). Roberto, Simona, Sandra and Nicolo were wonderful hosts and took care of us like family. On our next trip to Italy, we will be sure to stay much longer at Il Borghetto.
Our first family vacation in Italy (including two teenagers and a fairly mobile 82 year old mother-in-law) involved a 5-night stay at this beautifully renovated, hillside retreat a few minutes drive from San Gimignano and handy as a base for many manageable easy trips to other popular towns in the region. The dirt road drive from the main highway gave us pause the first time but what we found at the end of it was well worth it. A small villa estate where we were given a spacious, clean and very charming apartment more than big enough for our group and opportunities galore to enjoy the breathtaking Tuscan landscape. From the view of the valley from the window seat in our bedroom (with 4-poster) to the broad vistas experienced on the terrace at sunset where my husband and I enjoyed our nightly Tuscan wine. This family-owned and run destination is a warm welcome in the hillside indeed and we shall return! Thank you Simone and Ricardo!!
We are two 55+ couples from the US and recently returned from a five night stay in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment with lots of Tuscan country charm. Our hosts went above and beyond with accomodating our needs, going as far as helping us by speaking Italian to the airlines while trying to locate our lost luggage, letting us know our car lights were on and even wrapping up dinner for 4 when (and putting it in our refrigerator) we couldn't get there in time to enjoy their Saturday evening dinner. We were very happy to enjoy the dinner the next night!
The grounds are lovely, well kept and very relaxing. We enjoyed the pool on a very hot afternoon and dined a second night under the Tuscan stars. The food is delicious and could not have been more perfect. We had one semi-picky eater and he was quite pleased.
The apartments are just like pictured on the website but seemed a little bigger in person. We had a small patio by our front door where we enjoyed morning coffee and evening wine. The location is about a mile on a dirt road but a very pretty drive. It's about 10 mionutes into San Gimignano where one can shop and dine.
I urge anyone to take the less beaten path and venture on the backroads to the smaller Tuscan towns. There's a lot to see in Tuscany and Il Borghetto is the perfect home base (and affordable too).
We visited Tuscany as part of an Italian trip to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We chose Il Borghetto mainly for its close location to San Gigminano but little did we know that it would exceed our expectations.
It’s located midway between Florence & Siena and a very short drive to San Gimignano and it’s a perfect base to explore Chianti and surrounding northern Tuscany.
We stayed in a self-catering 1 bedroom apartment with a spacious loft, sitting area & kitchen. The bedroom is huge which is a nice change from the tiny hotel rooms in Italy. Unfortunately, our apt. didn’t have a private terrace or patio but there are plenty of patios and sitting areas thorough out the beautiful property. There is also a very nice pool area but beware it’s not heated. I’m sure in the summer the water feels very refreshing.
Breakfast is not included but you can order a fresh croissant or roll the night before & they make coffee and cappuccino on the premises. They also have 2 dinners a week which are home cooked by the family and they also have an excellent wine selection. What makes these dinners so special & memorable are the romantic setting, the beautiful views and the fantastic service provided by the family.
Unfortunately, we only stayed 3 nights so we didn’t have time to attend their cooking class and we would have loved spending more time at the villa enjoying the beautiful grounds.
Simona, Sandra, Niccola and Ricardo are amazing hosts and made our stay very memorable. We highly recommend this property and hope to come back & stay a little longer.
Stayed in the three bedroom apartment for five days. It was spacious, beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and had great views. The entire place embodies exactly what you envision Tuscany to be. Beautiful sunsets and walks through the vineyards or along the Via Francigena are right there at your doorstep. Dinners at Il Borghetto are a special experience not to be missed with hands down some of the best meals we had in all of our two weeks with excellent wine offerings. Above all else is the amazing hospitality of the family. They truly made our stay special.
