My husband and I spent a sunny week in September at this charming farmhouse just below beautiful Cortona and enjoyed every minute. The location is perfect for touring both the eastern part of Tuscany, particularly the gorgeous Val d'Orcia with its lovely hilltop villages and Umbria. Our room was very comfortable, it had huge exposed beams on the ceiling and in the bathroom, which was quite small but well appointed. The farmhouse sits in the middle of an olive grove and has a nice swimming pool. The staff were very welcoming and always helpful. Our special thanks go to Valentina and Mirko who looked after us very well. This was not the first time we have stayed at the Borgo and, once again, we were not disappointed. We will definitely be back!
We had dinner reservations at a nearby restaurant and decided to find a hotel for the night rather than making the 1.5-hour drive back to our airbnb--so we managed to grab a room at San Pietro. We had a little difficulty navigating our way there, but the hotel staff patiently guided us via phone. We loved our room and found everyone there very welcoming. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. Made us wish we'd stayed an extra night. After checking out we hit the road only to discover we had a flat tire. The hotel was kind enough to send someone out to help us! That kind of service is beyond--we were so grateful.
Located very nicely and close to Cortona you will find quite a charming Borgo. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The Borgo has 5 apartments (we had a 2 bedroom apartment) and 14 or so hotelrooms. The surroundings are great (olive and fruit trees and some beautiful gardens). The pool is large, clean and very nice for kids (no diving unfortunately since the pool is just 110cm deep). On a hot sunny day the pool service (drinks) is really nice...Breakfast is very simple but sufficient (espresso coffee is very nice!!). You can have light lunch or have dinner on site (make sure you make a reservation for the dinner). Quality of the food is fine, but expect nothing exceptional (with younger kids this dinner service however is convenient).
The downsides of the stay at the apartment: dark house; old small kitchenette; no cleaning stuff and not much to cook with etc); noisy airco; no washing machine (was anticipated for based on our booking website info); no drying lines for towels /swimwear.
So, all in all, a nice place to stay when it is sunny outside and you dont have to sit inside the apartment...
Location is perfect just outside Cortona, nice pool and very friendly staff, however they need to be clearer on what they do actually offer food wise. Breakfast is every day and fairly standard fare. They advertise dinners in the room information but don't offer this every day so you get advised daily whether they're offering lunch or dinner (if they see you) although Cortona has a number of excellent restaurants to pick from so I would always recommend eating there. Rooms are comfortable, air con works well in the bedrooms, but our bathroom didn't have a fan or extractor, so it got a bit warm and no anti-mosquito net on our bathroom window meant it couldn't be opened for fresh air. Small bar at the venue and nice outside space to sit and sup a glass of something cold in the evening. A nice base to tour the local area from.
We spent 4 nights here and found the villa Borgo very comfortable and it’s location makes exploring Cortona and further afield really easy. We did however, spend the 4 days trying to work out if the villa had a restaurant or not. Day 1 found details of the restaurant in the room but was told “we do not have a restaurant”, day 2 “we are serving dinner this evening would you like to reserve a table?”, day 3 no mention but when we came back from dinner in Cortona they were lots of people eating... day 4 no mention and then our last day... “we will be serving lunch and dinner today”. View the villa as a lovely B&B and you won’t be disappointed. View as a hotel and you will keep looking for food!
