I stayed at this crusty dive in October and it was horrible. The lobby had been updated but this place is just an expensive youth hostel. The cot-like single beds were atrocious and the rooms were dirty. Zero amenities in the rooms: no water glasses, the TV was broken, no hot water, or toilet paper, and the only spare outlet was above the bathroom sink (not ideal for charging electronics). They did offer a decent breakfast. The property is conveniently located just on the fringe of touristic locations and restaurants.
My room overlooked a courtyard garden, which, they were remodeling with jack-hammers that started at 7 am each day throughout my multi-day stay.
Luckily, Rome is charming enough to wash away the memories of this over-priced rip-off. They charged over 100 euro plus expensive hidden fees (the online price was listed at 70 euros). The front desk clerks were frosty bordering on rude.
I travel internationally at least once a month and this was the worst and most deceptive hotel I have ever experienced in 2 decades of travel.
One of the very worst hotel experiences I've ever had!
From the rude front desk "welcome" to the subpar accommodations in the room like hard bed and pillow, just do yourself a favor and avoid Villa Torlonia.
For what they charge you can get way better!
I usually do not write bad review. I do when there is something really not honest about a place, an offer.
It is just far from what you expect with the description and the price.
It has the confort and services like a single room in a hostel.
Beds are single ones even if you ask for double, they try to charge you more than they should for anything.
Just pick another place.
They charge me money from my card without asking for my permission. When I ask about this, they said that when I check-in they forgot to mention this...
The heating was not working in my room. Overall, poor conditions for a 4 stars hotel.
We stayed at this hotel as apart of our Topdeck tour. The room itself was quite small, could barely fit our suitcases in and had to jump over them to get to the bed. The location is a bit out of the main part of Rome but there is a metro station close by and it was easy enough catching that to the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain etc. Wifi and breakfast wasn’t the greatest.
