We found this campsite almost by accident on our July 2015 mini-tour of France and we ended up staying for the remainder of our holiday. Spacious pitches, plenty of showers, toilets and washing up facilities all kept extremely clean, beautiful location on the river, plenty of shady pitches if you prefer, lovely helpful and welcoming lady in reception, laundry facilities, free wifi, access to swimming pool and only a few minutes walk into the pretty village of Azay le Rideau with its chateau, local market and good restaurants. Oh, and there's a huge Carrefour with petrol station only a couple of minutes drive away. This is an excellent choice for a stay in the Loire area and we highly recommend it.
we really liked this campsite, it's everything you'd expect from a Municipal. Calm, well-ordered, nice setting by the river (though you can't swim in the river), big shady pitches, well-managed facilities. We stayed in August but it didn't feel crowded. Being able to use the municipal swimming pool next door for free is great too. Azay le Rideau is a good base for the Loire. Check out the self-service fresh farm milk machine at the Carrefour up the hill!
We arrived at the site at about 6 pm on 5th July and had a feeling we were going to like it from the moment we turned the corner into the road leading to the site. We had been recommended by some friends and were not disappointed. We hadn't made a reservation but there were plenty of spaces and the staff told us that we could take whichever pitch we wanted. They were large, unmarked pitches and you could choose a spot right by the river if you wanted. The toilet block was new and kept very clean. there was free wi-fi and access to the municipal pool for a €20 euro deposit for the wristband. We initially booked for 3 nights but stayed for 4.
The town was very pretty and there were some nice restaurants within 10 mins walk of the site. We went to the market on Saturday morning and bought the nicest Brie ever!! The surrounding countryside is lovely and we used the site as a base to tour along the Loire.
Doing something that we’ve never done before; turning up at a site unbooked and taking a “risk”, my family and I were very pleasantly surprised when we stayed at Le Sabot over the Jubilee weekend; finding the site not only conveniently situated a few hundred yards from the town centre, but also from the Autoroute.
The staff were polite and helpful and the pitches large, and being so close to the Indre the site had an extremely tranquil feel, and as night came in, the marsh frogs (love ‘em or hate ‘em) and cicadas started singing and I couldn’t think of a more restful spot at the end of a long day’s drive.
Given its location, proximity to the many Chateaux of the area, closeness of a big Carrefour and other smaller independent shops, cafes and restaurants I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone.
The added bonus of the municipal swimming pool (free entry) helped make sure that all the boxes were ticked - go there and see for yourself :)
Great location, shade from trees, riverside, chateau across river. Free access to municipal swimming pool next door (pick up ticket from campsite reception). Facilities cleaned regularly. Bread van arrives each morning, good restarants within 5 mins walk. Quiet each night by about 10:30pm (can hear music from show in chateau grounds 6:30-10:00 or so, but not intrusive).
