Very nice place to stay. Lovely gardens and in a nice village location. Driving instructions arrived a few days ahead and we appreciated that. Checkin was great and the host provided us with a map and a few good recommendations. Room was very comfortable and slept well both nights. Breakfast was freshly cooked in the breakfast room, we ate in. The breakfast was really good and the menu were left in the room the evening before which helped choose. It's a good place and there was a nice area outside our room where we could sit out. There is a nice walk from the accommodation through the countryside into Winchester - about 50 min and it is level and well maintained. Good bus service back out !
Although the cottage is located practically right next to a major road (A 34 I think) the noise level remained well below what one would have expected. The room (2) was large and clean and everything looked new. The landlady was extremely kind and helpful; she had given detailed explanation via email of how to find the place. When we arrived, she immediately switched on the heating as it was pretty chilly in the evening.
There are a number of issues on the negative side, however. In spite of the detailed and careful description of the location of the B&B, it was not very easy to find the place. The final couple of meters that lead to the parking area covered in a thick layer of pebbles, take you on a narrow path between two private garages or garden sheds. The room was not en-suite, even if it had a private bath on the corridor- with the stairs and the way to the breakfast room right in front of the door of the bedroom. The most serious weakness of the room was poor sound insulation. We could hear the banging steps of the guests above us and even the male guest snoring. The breakfast room was what appeared to be a later addition to the house. Breakfast was cooked in the breakfast room itself, so the small room got very stuffy and smelly. The breakfast was otherwise good; we had to indicate our choice on a menu the previous night. We had a minor issue with the breakfast though; the plastic cover was left on the black pudding when it was served. I’ m not quite sure how to cook black pudding but I’m quite positive that the plastic cover should be peeled off before frying.
We stayed in the garden room with French windows out to a lovely patio with nice table and chairs to enjoy the garden. Linen lovely and fresh, everything in the room of good quality and design. Hilary very friendly and helpful. We got there about 7.30 and wanted to eat but had been put off by the Trip Advisor reviews of the local pub The Cart and Horses. Asked Hilary where she would recommend and she said her guests generally went to the Cart and Horses and had had very good experiences. We took her at her word and found all ofthe staff friendly and efficient and enjoyed a lovely meal of scallops to start and then perfectly cooked steaks with a lovely and interesting salad. Staff could not have been more helpful. Don't believe the poor reviews. Had a wonderful breakfast the next morning. Lovely fruit sald of strawberries and blueberries was available as well as the standard juices, cereals etc. Really big and good quality cooked breakfast, plentiful tea and coffee and toast. You can walk along the river into Winchester so no hassles with taking the car. Will be returning.
My partner and I stayed for 2 nights at Eversley Cottage after finding it by chance on line. Although not easy to find in Kings Worthy, once you do it's a beautiful cottage with lots of parking and a pretty garden - complete with duck pond. There is a pub within walking distance, which also serves food and you get a discount as a guest of the B&B.
We stayed in room 2, which is bright, clean and spacious. In good weather, you can also access the garden where there is some seating. The bathroom for room 2 is not en suite and is separate from the room itself. This didn't cause us any problems as it was only a few feet away and as this is not a busy B&B, we didn't see anyone en route to it.
The owner was chatty and helpful and our breakfast was well cooked. (As the breakfast is cooked in the same room as it's eaten, it can sometimes get a bit hot so best to open windows).
Word of warning - if you're staying in room 2 and there are people staying in the room above, it's quite noisy and you can hear every step they take. I'm a light sleeper and it woke me up.
Overall I would recommend staying at this B&B. It's close enough to Winchester to get the bus in or a taxi.
Lovely character B and B not far from Winchester on bus route. Lovely comfy room and bed. Warm welcome, First class breakfast. Within walking distance of pub serving meals, although we had already eaten so did not try it but I know from other guests that it has a good reputation and is reasonably priced for meals. B and B was everything we could have hoped for and more. We will stay again if ever in the area.
