Finding way into car park was difficult, especially in the dark. There is no lift in this hotel, but only two floors. Cleanliness of room was satisfactory. Most staff helpful and friendly. We had a problem in that there was a constant dripping from the pipe outside our window which kept us awake during the night it poured with rain. Reported this to reception - twice. We queried about good night guarantee and it was dismissed. We were offered another room for our last night but decided to decline as we didn't want to pack everything up when we got back to hotel on last night.
The restaurant was closed for maintence problems so unable to comment on food as our pre-booked breakfasts had been cancelled. Sadly we were not advised where to go for any breakfast or other meals but we found out for ourselves that there is a Sainsbury's superstore over other side of main road (accessible bridge) where they served a lovely choice of breakfast.
It is convenient if you’re passing through and just need a bed. The staff were very attentive. The room , tho not a newly updated one was clean and comfortable if you don’t mind the heavy footsteps above. However, what lets it down is the Beefeater next door. If you don’t want to drive into the city and just need a meal the dinner was okay. That is if you don’t mind smeary cutlery, grubby glassware and sticky tables. The breakfast was ok if you don’t mind half cooked sausages and not very nice tea. I’ve stayed in many Premier Inns and the standards have slipped recently. Will think twice on my next trip.
All the many Premier Inns we have stayed in have been good. This one is shabby, in need of an upgrade. Our bathroom, room 110, smelt damp and the floor had a very spongy area and a very deep depression which contained water. The receptionist unscrewed the panel under the washbasin to show there was no leak, said the floor was safe and the water in the hole was from the maid's mop. She would report it to maintenance. Imagine my surprise on our return to find this exact problem in room 110 reported on this site in February, 8 months ago! A further search showed a spongy floor and hole mentioned way back in August 2017, though no room number was given. Obviously there is no intention of repairing the soggy floorboards. My advice is to avoid this room. The adjoining Beefeater is dark and dingy, also in desperate need of brightening up. It is a very busy restaurant and the tables for 2 feel like sitting on the side of the M5, with staff constantly rushing past. It's not condusive to a relaxed meal, so we did not stay for pudding or coffee. Loss of revenue there, Beefeater. The entrance has a covered area for smokers but it doesn't extend the extra few feet to the hotel door, meaning getting wet or needing an umbrella, as well as walking round the cigarette butts, just to go to dinner. Very unpleasant. The smoking area need to be moved away from the hotel entrance. The only saving grace of this hotel is that both receptionists and waiting staff are very pleasant. We will not return.
Room was very clean and comfortable, staff were lovely. Food was okay. Signs aren't overly clear to get into the car park especially as its on a busy road but other than that it was a lovely stay. Would stay here again.
Very good room clean and pleasant efficient staff. My only slight complaint is it can be difficult finding a parking space at times when the restaurant is also busy . The location is well situated off of the a38
