Room adequate but had a musty damp smell. For some reason the bed had a plastic sheet under the main sheet. Very uncomfortable. Breakfast was ok, except the fried eggs were always undercooked despite me asking for a cooked one, so on the last morning I asked for sausage and beans and got 1 sausage and a few beans. The evening meals however were excellent. Plenty of choice and good helpings. The lady in charge needs training on how to speak to paying guests! Certainly not one of the better hotels we have stayed in on a coach trip.

On arriving we switched the bedroom light on and there was a bang - taking all the bedrooms out and the corridor. The hotel staff tried to reset fuse but it tripped again! We were told over dinner the ceiling light would be reinstated the next day. On returning to our room that night the light was not replaced and the window was wide open which gave the impression there was a moisture problem. The following morning there was water dripping from a redundant bracket on the ceiling and we were told, when reporting it to reception, it was coming from the shower above..Next day when we returned the ceiling light was replaced and bracket, where the water was coming through, was removed. Next morning went into the toilet, switched light on and bang again took all lights in rooms and corridor out. The staff made no effort to rectify the problem and had to shave/shower in dark..Always make sure your bedroom curtains are closed in the morning as workmen start repairs at 8.00am! Meals - very small in portion - Steak and ale pie to be avoided - pastry overcooked, meat scarce. At breakfast we were asked if we wanted more toast - we are still waiting!!!The owner's daughter, who is in charge of the dining room, announced if you want to leave a tip for the waiting staff leave it on the table in the morning and for the housekeeping staff leave it in the room - we have NEVER heard of this before and found it quite impudent. On the last day there was no-one on reception to give any comments. The hotel is in need of serious maintenance/clean/upgrade and resembles Fawlty Towers- would NEVER use again.

We stayed 16th to 19th August for our Wedding Anniversary .
Rooms are clean beds are comfy , beds made, clean towels and bins emptied daily we had room 30 in the annexe overlooking the pub beer garden and although there was a 21st birthday party in the pub on the Saturday night we never heard a thing.
All staff were friendly from the minute we walked through the door , Margaret welcomed us and showed us to our room , Bar Staff were lovely and waitresses at breakfast couldnt do enough . Breakfast was delicious, orange/apple juice, cereal, full english, toast with a selection of jams and marmalades , tea or coffee.
We decided to eat in the hotel the night we arrived mainly because it was pooring with rain and i was shattered after driving for 5 1/2 hours i had Fish and Chips and it was lovely and reasonably priced . We really enjoyed our time at this hotel and would go again . Yes the rooms could do with a bit of an update but i dont go away to sit in the room looking at the decor as long as its clean and comfortable im happy anyone who has moaned and groaned about it are just to fussy and if they want 5* decor then they should pay 5* prices .

Ultimately, we couldn’t wait to leave... the room was standard, good size and clean sheets. The bathroom was tiny and filthy, the fixings had seen better days 20 years ago.. The staff were rude and ignorant, in the bar it was all about the locals and ignoring the hotel guests!! Maybe have a second place that hotel guests can go and be treated with respect as paying guests! The bar food was delicious and the breakfast was satisfactory, we ordered off menu and always got extra toast which was lovely! The waitresses seemed like they did not enjoy their jobs and were short and snippy with all guests we saw.. the final morning we had a lovely hound waitress who took the time to have a quick chat and gave us the time of day.. wishes she was there the whole time!! Would have been a much better experience!!

Ultimately, good location, good value for money, staff need to treat guests better and the hotel needs some serious work!!

My partner and I was in this hotel for the new year last year as other hotel over booked.
The room we were in was small could not swing a cat in it.
There was a small shelf on the wall which had the kettle on which was dangerous and so on the last night I put water in the kettle to make a cup of tea waited for it to boil went to use the kettle but I tripped and the kettle of boiling came over my head .
If it was not for my coach driver and his wife I don't know what I would have done.
The hotel was crap did nothing but constantly lied to my solicitors and never had a care in The world.
Mrs Ashwood the proprietor has been visited by the hotel inspector from the it program but never did all she advised.
THIS HOTEL I WOULD ADVISE TO STAY FROM.

We strongly disagree with your review you have posted.

We have acted on everything the hotel inspector suggested except charging guests for towels and Wifi, everything else is in place still.

We had a request from your coach company at short notice to accommodate a few rooms as your original hotel was overbooked, we did this stating they were the last few rooms we had available. Your room was a standard double room with en-suite facilities.

We were alerted by your fellow coach passengers of your incident and acted immediately by calling an ambulance and staff attending to you in your room. We have never lied to your solicitor and you received written statements from the staff which attended to you in your room the evening of the incident and the morning after.

Regarding your trip, we were advised by your partner you lost your balance and on reaching out grabbed the kettle lead causing the kettle to fall from the shelf.

We were all very sorry to hear of your incident at our hotel but took every action possible and assisted you in every way we could, until your departure on the coach the following day. We were disappointed to learn you appointed a solicitor and even more upset the fact you have posted this on Trip Adviser.
