The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The sheets and pillows were soft; aiding in a a perfect night's sleep. The breakfast boxes were fine. The first morning we received only one type of cheese, the second morning there was zero pieces of cheese. My sister had received two pieces of cheese in her box (a different room on a different floor) each morning. We received turn down service with chocolate the first night, but we did not the second night. My sister did receive it both nights.
We arrived not knowing that Le Germain was about to undergo a full refurbishment. The only way that affected our stay was that the restaurant was closed and the breakfast came in a generous cardboard box with a selection of fresh items on offer first in a conference room and then in the restaurant.
The rooms are large with a very dark brown decor. Combined with the lighting being designed for mood meant that sometimes the rooms could be a little dark. Plenty of storage space. Comfortable chairs and bed.
The bathroom was good although the window between it and the room was a bit of an odd design choice.
My only real complaint would be that our rooms were at the back of the hotel and close to an air conditioning unit which was quite loud sometimes making sleeping a bit difficult.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful through out the stay which makes this one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at.
Not my first trip to Montreal but decided to chose a hotel afresh looking at ratings vs price. Choosing a boutique hotel can be risky but the location of Le Germain was great, price reasonable and ratings good. I was not disappointed. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful including those assisting with the free included breakfast - pretty modest offering but adequate. Room was well appointed and comfortable - good bathroom (no bath). Will opt for Le Germain again.
I have travelled across Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec over a two week period and this was by far the best hotel! The room was lovely and the breakfast whilst limited compared to other hotels (i.e. The King Edward in Toronto) was enjoyable. The Molton Brown in the room was an excellent touch that both my wife and I appreciated. The attention to deal throughout the room was notable and as such get our top rating for Canada.
Location is very good, rates are very competitive, front desk friendly and rooms are spacious. Breakfast is included, but it is no big deal, not many options to choose from. They were also some noisy and impolite family guests talking loud, skipping line, stuffing sandwiches in the toaster and making the breakfast experience rather unpleasant. But perhaps the biggest let down was the cleaningness of the room. Despite looking neat and clean at first glance, I found a whole lot of nut crambles hiding under my bed on my second night. That is when I started noticing the little specks of dust lying here and there. The dark colours used in the carpet and furniture make it easier to hide the dirt, but it doesn't mean it isn't there. I recommend the hotel to pay a special attention to housekeeping.
