I've stayed at this hotel more than a dozen times since 1977. The location is ideal, with a 20 minute walk to the downtown area. They have their own parking which is convenient for getting things out of the car and driving to other locations for site seeing. The newer rooms are beautiful and spacious. Very clean with a huge shower. The grounds have beautiful gardens with a very nice swimming pool. It originally was a hacienda and called the Parador San Javier. Stay away from Hotels downtown as they tend to be noisy and normally, there isn't any parking.
I adored to be hosted in this hotel. Very big and complete breakfast, fantastic and huge garden with swimming pool, big room, huge shower, personal very gentle and discreet. The view from my room was breathtaking.
I warmly recommend this hotel
The hotel is close to the union garden and lots of sightseeing locations, it was formerly a hacienda so the the building is lovely and has nice and well maintained gardens. Staff is great, accommodating and warm. The only reason I'm not giving it a five star review is because they could improve their cleaning, a food tray was left in the corridor for three, yes, three days without anyone picking it up. Same happened with dirty dishes left by the pool.
If you are very picky about cleanness you might find that disappointing, however, I'd stay there again as I loved the quiet atmosphere of the hotel and the helpful staff.
Oh, and don't eat at the buffet, it's overpriced and not that good, you are in Guanajuato, go out and eat somewhere else, it will save you money and you'll eat better.
Thanks to Oliver at desk, my charming oval brick ceiled room #1007 was located in ivy covered building with small balcony overlooking garden & pool. Note there are two flights of stone steps to this section. Hotel has three distinct sections: mine, then a barrack type set up #1030-1044 (groups placed here), and a newer more modern section overlooking pretty garden. Room location definitely positively influenced experience. Fluffy towels, clean, AC/heat, frig, nice bath amenities, clock. Large airy dining area, good food, varied breakfast buffet (extensive on weekends). Relaxing clean pool area. Staff polite and efficient. One major drawback - location two miles from historic centro where you want to be. Area near hotel is not inviting or attractive for strolling.
Stayed two nights as part of Road Scholar tour. Property is well maintained and clean. Great breakfast buffet. Bar does not open till 7:00 PM. Some distance from city center but taxi is only 50 pesos each way, less than three US dollars. Nice swimming pool but not heated.staff is helpful and you can always find bilingual. Saves in room are a plus.
