Quiet and in the countryside Hosts very helpful but it is more like selfcatering as they are both working and have young family.
Swimming pool is amazing with views over vineyards but unfortunately weather sadly prevented its use
The room is a studio rather than one bedroomed cottage a little tight for space and not much light as the front of the cottage only has windows
There were levels of uncleanliness inside and outside that need more attention There should be an extra railing and soap and shampoo holders on wall in bathroom Wifi very irritating as poor reception inside
Breakfast very Aussie style - would have preferred natural low carb yoghurts fresh fruit and artisanal bread or even cheese as an option.if you are staying for a week it is disconcerting to have a weeks supply of bacon and sausage in your fridge and a 3 litres container of juice. You get the feeling that this is done for their convenience.
In summary we enjoyed our stay here but there is room for improvement
We has three nights at Amande. Everything was just perfect, the breakfast provisions outstanding, the freshly baked bread top notch and hosts that were extremely welcoming and full of great local tips of places to visit.
The bed was comfortable, the room well appointed and the experience just charming and relaxing. We didn’t want to leave.
P.S. Misty the dog is simply the best.
Amande is a nice quiet place in the country. With just two cottage-like rooms, the atmosphere is calm. Our room was large with a kitchen area, a small couch and a comfortable shaded patio. It was a little too cold to swim, but the pool looked very inviting. The owners were friendly and helpful. It's also not far to the town of McLaren Vale which has a large grocery store as well as restaurants and a nice wine store.
We were 2 couples staying for just 1 night. Each suite (either Lavender or Absinthe) mirrors each other, is clean and well appointed. We were there on a very warm day, so the pool was a much appreciated refreshment. Donna and Mike were wonderful hosts, visiting with us, making dinner reservations and helping with directions. The cook your own breakfast, with eggs from their own chickens, local sausage and bacon, local produce for omelettes and Donna's still warm homemade bread was delicious and ample.
Stayed last weekend for a very rare weekend away with the wife, very pleasant location and nice tidy room, although it is not a cottage I don't believe it professes to be, it is of very adequately sized and has plenty of space to either sit inside or enjoy the tranquility outside.
Breakfast provisions were well in excess of what one would require for even the most lavish breakfast and every requirement was possible from teas and pod coffee selections to cereals, yogurt and all the standard cooked breakfast fair complete with beautiful fresh bread and country fresh eggs.
Double shower is a welcome treat and of suitable size and plenty of hot water .
After our last very bad B & B experience at a different location it was a very welcome relief to be able to check in early as requested and not actually exchange contact with the owner until we were just driving out on sunday morning which proved to be a chance meeting and resulted in a great suggestion for morning coffee and catch up with friends at Angoves were we enjoyed pleasant service and some winter sun on their deck.
Had we required any local knowledge on were to go and what to see that you may not get from the usual glossy tourist brochures I am sure from only our brief discussions Mike would have provided ample of such and we would have simply had to have knocked on the office door or have rang them as they supplied their mobile number, alternately as we chose we just wanted to enjoy a romantic weekend away with out interruption which we got.
Only negative was the lack of Wi Fi which given the location meant mobile internet was patchy but some time its nice to be off the grid !!!
Thanks Mike and Donna great service and great pace to stay we will be back.
