Excellent staff, safe grounds, most enjoyable vacation! Can't wait to return! I would suggest having more to do for my age group. We looked for a volleyball for 3 days! I asked several staff members where to get a volleyball. I was sent to 3 different people and could never get one! Couldn't find a pool table or any other activity to play.
We got married at Paradisus Palma Real a few years ago. It was an unforgettable experience so it was a no-brainer to celebrate our anniversary at this place.
The place still looks as amazing as we remember it in our wedding. Specially the Main Square and the Pool.
Our Room, although a bit aged, it was well maintained and clean. Pool, Beach, Gardens and common areas were very well maintained.
Friendly Bartenders. Every bartender at the resort was friendly, polite, and professional. Great Piña Colada and Chinola (passion fruit) Mojitos.
Preferential Dinner Reservation: It seems that certain hours were for the “better” guests as we noticed later during our stay that none of the restaurants were at capacity. We also requested to add something special on our table for our anniversary. Unfortunately, nothing special was added at dinner time at the restaurant.
Annoying “Circle by Melia” Staff: Every day we were being approached by “Circle by Melia” guys to sell us those Time-Share packages. One of them even told us to participate on that 2-hour seminar so that he can get his “points”.
The Beach and Pool waiter service was almost non-existent unless you tip. During our 4 day stay, we were approached only once by a waiter. We decided to get the drinks ourselves from the bars.
The food quality and variety has dropped dramatically. Low quality wine at the restaurants. Some plates at the Vento restaurant were just not fresh.
Not so peaceful on the weekends, specially at the Pool area.
We were disappointed with service at Naos buffet where wait staff did not come to even take drink orders the first 2 days, but after complaining to head waiter Jose RIviera he ensured we had service from then onwards. We could not get reservations on Friday (the day we arrived) or Sat which is unfortunate and Dinner Buffet food is almost similar to lunch buffet food. Buffet is not great, but we were able to find atleast one thing we liked each time. Burgers and Hotdogs at the beach available 12-1.30 and around 4 pm. So you will not starve, but we got pretty bored after 2 days. Our concierge Richy was great. My daughter got an ear infection when we were there and he picked up antibiotic from Pharmacy for us. Thankfully we did not have to use the doctor onsite (said 160$ charge, but we called our pediatrician and she told us what antibiotic to use).
Pros: Pool is huge with multiple stations to rest and drink. Drinks were pretty good. Restaurants Aqua, Vento, Rare and Mizu were good; Circus, MJ show and DR show are decent
Cons: Beach is full of kelp and not cleaned in morning or evening. Some wait staff did not show interest to serve. Entertainment shows were nothing but Dance music/DJ night
Helpful tips: Email ahead for dinner reservations or go to the concierge when they open at 9am Sunday morning to make reservations for the week. If you are traveling from US, DO NOT CONVERT Dollars to Pesos. They use only Dollars in DR and all prices and services are in US Dollars.
We had a wonderful family holiday at this resort.
Jesus Evangelista was our waiter for the entire week and took such good care of us.
He made sure our kids stayed hydrated, always bringing ice cold water at regular intervals, plus any other drinks that we desired.
Jesus was friendly and attentive and always had a smile on his face.
Overall, not super impressed... we had a lot of broken stuff in our room, including a giant hole in the spa tub. I’m really only writing this review for Freddy Mota at playa-pool. He was amazing. Always there whenever we needed something. He even went and got me a regular Coca Cola from the main kitchen at 730am before the pool opened. Great staff... you have. Just work on the infrastructure a little more- keep up your rooms better.
