I had an incredible experience staying at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort. First, the resort was immaculate from the lobby entrance to the common areas and than the room. The food was delicious and the drinks were always prepared to perfection. Every member of the staff was friendly and attentative from the resort receptionist to the waitress. However, I would like to call attention to Jose Luis Monte for his exemplary service upon check in and through out my stay. His professionalism and knowlege was beyond reproach. He recommended several tourist sites in the city and on several occasions assisted me with some other concerns. I would highly recommend this resort because without question it sets the bar for how a resort should operate and how its staff you treat the quest.
Where to begin? This is the worst “all-inclusive” I’ve ever been to. “All-inclusive” between quotation marks because besides low quality food and overly sugary drinks, everything is extra. WiFi, $12/day. Business center, $3/15 min. Adults only pool, $15/day. Tennis court lights, $15. Medical clinic, not included. Etc. Getting a reservation for a restaurant at a reasonable hour is almost impossible, even 5 days in advance, even during low season. Service is abysmal. With very few exceptions, the staff behaves as if doing you a favor. If that’s not enough, my nephew got bitten by BED BUGS. When we complained, they offer to downgrade our room, even if the hotel was at half occupancy at best.
Definitely not coming back.
Our first visit to Barcelo Bavaro Beach was in 2012 and we have returned for an annual trip every year since. We have groups of varied sizes--anywhere from 4 to 16 people. This place a little piece of paradise--beautiful and relaxing and enjoyable in every regard! Knowing that I was celebrating a birthday this year, they did their best to make it a special recognition, by decorating my room and delivering a nice, personal note and a birthday cake. Every employee with whom I had interaction is there to accommodate and serve and offer great service. I'm already looking forward to our return next year!
Alexandra Vargas and Mabel Geronimo Nuñez excellent communication, professional and VERY GOOD at their job. They always make our check in and room accommodations efficient and easy!!! Reyfi a very light hearted entertaining and just fun entertainer!! He remembers faces and just keeps the laughs rolling!! At the palace buffet Orlando Polanco and Maria Ramos always make us feel special each year. We plan to return next year for our 19th vacation at the Barcelo Resort.
We have returned today from spending a most enjoyable 11 night holiday at the Barcelona Bavaro Beach Club. We had a good flight (BA) and transfer to the resort approx 45 minutes from the airport. Our first impression on entering the complex was just how huge it was. Our first night was rather disappointing as the room we were allocated in block 1 was immediately opposite the main entertainment centre and the music was still going after three am. A further disappointment was when we asked for the WiFi code and were advised there was not WiFi in the room without a payment per device which was extortionate, although there are some free WiFi zones.
The next day we asked to move rooms, and this was swiftly arranged. We decided at this point to upgrade to Premium level which provided WiFi coverage for all devices pus other benefits. I would definitely recommend taking this option.
The grounds throughout the resorts are well maintained and everywhere is very clean. The beach is stunning, one of the most beautiful I have visited. The sea is sparkling turquoise with turtles swimming right up to the beach.
The restaurants on the site are very good. Chez Gourment is fabulous with a great choice of menu and with the benefit of have a greater choice of wines, albeit at an additional cost. House wine is available throughout the resort (red and white) although not particular good quality. Also there is no rose option which is always a favourite in hot climates and which is stocked by all other Caribbean all inclusive resorts we have been to.
La Brisa beach restaurant is the ideal spot for lunch just to sit and watch pelicans diving. In the evening La Brisa becomes an a la carte restaurant with a good choice of menu in an romantic setting.
There is a good choice of other restaurants sited at the main Palace resort however this is far removed from a Caribbean resort and more like a large America Mall. Although well maintained, be aware this is not what many people would associate with the Caribbean idyll.
The Golf course is superb and the clubhouse great for either a drink or a light meal during the day. A fabulous place for golfers and those like a quieter haven.
The pool area at the Beach Club is extensive and a great place to gather socially. However there was a small number of guests who insisted on playing professional type ghetto blasts at full volume. Despite the management requesting them to turn the volume down they did not comply, making things uncomfortable for the others around the pool.
A most enjoyable holiday but I would make one or two suggestions which would make it even better:
* Prohibit the use of personal ghetto blasters without ear phones.
* Have better quality house wine including the introduction of rose.
* Introduce a set time for a social mix in for tennis as part of the activities programme,
We would love to return with a group of friends and give a toast to Barcelo Beach Club with a nice glass of cold wine or rose.
