We stayed three nights at this place, including new year, and had very mixed impressions. The hotel itself is lovely, a bit at the outskirts of Diani which makes the beach also less crowded. They are having a nice pool, good beach area and two outdoor bars.
The hotel clearly targets overseas tourists (we are residents), and we had very mixed experiences there.
Really outstanding was the food (we have booked half board). Very evening the dinner was set up at a different area (beach, pool,..), very cool. While we normally not like buffet style
dinners they offered a mix here. Barbecue, cooking in a wok...very nice selection but also very good quality and very tasty (and my wife and myself are foodies). Same applies for the breakfast. Really great!
The dark side was the service sector. The staff was very friendly but also very unattentive and obviously not properly trained or guided.
We ordered a bottle of champagne upfront to be in our room at arrival. Even confirmed by email this was not executed, it took them three hours to organize this after arrival and we got a half warm bottle (which we did not even open). Same picture at the bar: impossible to get a cold beer at the beach bar („problems with the fridge), the smokers did dump the cigarette butts on the floor as no ashtrays were provided and it did not happen once, when we were at the bar area, that somebody asked if we want an additional drink. You always had to go, ask and wait for a fortune of time. Same happened when we moved our room - were told „somebody is coming“, called a 2nd time after one hour and finally I walked to the reception to get this done.
These are the annoying experiences and always shows that there is a management problem - the people itself have been friendly and helpful.

I was disappointed by this place, which was OK but nothing special. Rooms were quite bare, with only one chair and one stool apart from the bed (two singles pushed together to make a double), basic Swahili style shower, and no TV. One quite small swimming pool, which would be overcrowded if the resort was busy. Lots of seaweed on the beach (other hotels rake it up). Food was fine but again nothing to write home about. Solidly only a two or at most three star hotel, but with a four to five star price tag. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and tried their best, given the difficult situation of COVID-19.

Looked like A CARE HOME for elderly people
The hotel were full with guests age between 65 -80 .
The food was terrible from Menu , limited or extra surcharge on full board !
The Mango dessert wasn’t available but the vanilla ice cream and fruit platter yes ! The cheep and easy was available
Rice was dry ,not fresh chewy meet for 460 sd / night

On the phone thick dust , it wasn’t clean for more then a week
The only water battle we got for drinking was filled up few days before .
These all bad experience came up only in few Hours that’s why WE LEFT the resort !
The security had cafe 2 yards away from us in the Lobby, the gun was facing to us ! it made me feel bad and i worried about a terrorist attack , not until this day
We have been to several Hotel and Resort i in Diani Beach, i saw security at the gate , but Gun never was visible at all
They made double reservations , during busy Half term last week in UK also Half term in Kenya, i paid in advance 460 USD / night Executive Suite Beach front with spectacular view and personal shef in my room ,But they gave Deluxe Small Room , No personal shef
All we remember about the Resort is the Dry rice, old warm drinking water and Dated Dirty Pool and loungers and the Gun
Stayed here for ten nights in February. Fantastic stay all round. Lovely spacious room, with large balcony that was kept very clean every day. Very relaxing breakfast with no waiting for a table and chefs stationed to supply freshly cut fruit and eggs cooked in any way you like. Lovely setting overlooking beautiful fish and small birds. A la carte lunch provided a wide range of options including gorgous salads and pizzas. Enjoyed also the fact that the evening meals alternated between the main restaurant, pool and beach. Always plenty of sunbeds at pool and beach.
All of the staff were fantastic with too many to name individually.
Whilst this would not be a hotel that would suit people in search of a noisy nightlife it suited us down to the ground with a good range of cocktails included on the all inclusive.
Finally if you are in need of a reliable transfer from airport to hotel I can recommend a particular taxi driver who I found via TripAdvisor. He was a very careful driver, very responsive, flexible and in my opinion reasonable. Feel free to message me if you would like his details.
This was our sixth visit to Pinewood Beach Resort and it is better than ever. It is good to see the hotel flourishing and virtually full which reflects renewed confidence in the tourist trade in Kenya but also the incredibly high standards at this hotel.
As a relatively small hotel situated on a quiet stretch of beach the overwhelming feeling is peace and tranquility. Accommodation is situated in small houses along a road down to the beach which creates a village type atmosphere, with the sight of the blue ocean through the palm trees at the beach end of the village being truly amazing.
A highlight for us is the superb range and variety of food, particularly the themed dinners, served either in the restaurant or alongside the pool or in the BBQ area adjacent to the beach. Attention to detail is a feature of everything the talented team of chefs prepare. A welcome innovation is the fruit bar and freshly cooked dishes for breakfast in addition to the buffet. The banana fritters on a Friday are to die for!!
The major attraction of Pinewood are the wonderful staff and management. Literally nothing is too much trouble and everyone is just pleased to see you and concerned that you have a great holiday. It is inappropriate to pick on individual members but whether it is the very visible management team, waiters, chefs, bar staff, reception staff, cleaners and ground staff, all we can say is thank you for another great holiday at Pinewood.
