rooms are old/ dirty/ smelly/ damp. they did charged around rs. 1000 for a small room with no views at all. i fail to understand why there are so many positive reviews . u will surely spoil ur mood and holiday if u check in there. the furniture are old and rusty and the lines are soiled. very old structure and no renovation has been done. provided two worn out cheap plastic chair for sitting. they also do not provide food in rooms, u have to go and eat in the dining room within specific time.

i immediately checked in some other hotel despite the fact that i had already paid for this disgusting hotel

My lovely wife and I spent two nights here when visiting Pelling. We'd had WiFi problems at our previous hotel so arrived in town without a reservation. The jeep from Geyzing dropped us right outside this hotel so we thought we'd give it a go as we'd heard some good things about it. We were shown three rooms - a small basic room costing 800 rupees per night, a mid-sized room costing 1100 rupees per night and a much larger room costing 1500 rupees per night. The latter promised mountain views but given the persistent poor visibility this wasn't much of a selling point so we went for the mid-sized option.

At first glance the room looked OK. Only on closer inspection did we realise how dirty it was. The bedding was particularly unpleasant. Never have I seen such a lumpy and grubby duvet. The sheets and pillowcases were also a little on the suspicious side so we resorted to using the sleeping bag liners we carry with us for such unfortunate occasions. It is only the second time we have had to resort to doing so in over three months in India, which I think says a lot about this place.

The room - and indeed the whole hotel - was very cold. You could rent a small electric blower for 400 rupees per night but it didn't look like it would be very effective so we didn't bother. Hot water was also in limited supply with the small boiler providing juat enough hot water for one brief shower. WiFi is weak and intermittent.

On the plus side the staff are very friendly and the food is pretty good. But this isn't enough to explain the glowing recommendations on this esteemed site and in some guidebooks. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

It was a wonderful experience staying at Hotel Garuda. Our rooms were very clean and spacious and having sufficient facilities. The owner Mr. Wangdi is a thorough gentleman and a helpful person. We stayed here for 3 days. A few plus points are as following-
1. Located at a very convenient place. All major facilities and nearby attractions such as Helipad, Rhabdentse ruins, Pemayangtse monastery are not far away.
2. One can get view of Kanchenjunga Peak from roof of Hotel. In fact you can get view from your room itself if you get room facing back of hotel.
3. The hotel has a good library and collection of articles used by locals so it is an educational experience.
4. Rooms are spacious, airy, well lit. The areas outside room too have facility to sit.
5. Toilets are clean and having all facilities. Geyser switch is not under control of hotel owner as it happens in many other hotels.
6. There is a balcony at least in all front facing rooms.
7. The tariff is pocket friendly.
The additional advantage for vegetarians would be proximity to popular vegetarian restaurant Havmor.
The rooms are not numbered in usual 1,2,3 .. manner but have names such as Karma, Nima, Dawa, Norbu, Paksam, Lungta etc. I was told that these are names of persons.

Last time when I was at Pelling with my wife was unable to stay at this hotel as it was full. This time I stayed with my wife and kid. I booked from MMT and it was misguided about the room however the Hotel owner help me to get another good room next day which was at top floor. Unfortunately we were unable to see Kanchanjhanga due to fog. Over all exp is ok.

1. Economy and Standard rooms don't always guarantee good views. I'd rather suggest you to contact Mr. Bhutia (Manager) directly, have a conversation and book accordingly. He is a cordial man. No.: 09733076484. 2. I wouldn't suggest you to go for the meal plan as I personally didn't find the food extraordinary. There are a few restaurants in upper Pelling who serve good food. Kabur restaurant is 1min walk from Garuda. Though the food-situation will have to be managed on spot as per need. Happy journey.
