Are there certain rooms or types of rooms that have larger windows or balconies with a lot of natural light so we can avoid a room with small windows or little or no daylight?

Mandawa Fort (the Garh) was converted to a hotel. We stated in a deluxe room (on first floor). Hotel is just mind blowing. Service is very good too. Food quality can be improved. There were not many options for breakfast (may be due to very limited number of guests now). Rooms are huge and very beautiful. Old people might face some problem. The beds are a bit too high and will be difficult for them. I dont think there is a better place to stay in Mandawa other than this place.

The property has several courtyard and terraces that need to be discovered. It is right in the middle of the town. Linen is super clean. Super courteous staff. Great food with local Rajasthani cuisine. Super cultural evening with a bonfire. Of special mention, Virender, the general manager. The property boasts of who's who of Bollywood having stayed at the Royal Suite that we stayed in.

As we were sick of covid news and fears, me and wife decided to do the best thing to fight it. Travel! And since Rajasthan was the first place to open up for tourism, our travel agent Holxo recommended the sleepy town of Mandawa, after getting to know my interest in heritage. And boy, what a trip it turned out to be!

They arranged the best taxi and driver for the five hour drive from Delhi, and as we set out, we received a welcome call from the hotel manager Virender Singh Rathore. His name itself gave me a glimpse of the Rajput heritage we were about to partake in.

And we were not disappointed as we reached the hotel Mandawa Castle. It is actually a a 250 year old property, and new wings were added later on, but even those in heritage style, rather than in new architecture. The first hour was spent on clicking photos of the gardens, from the private balcony of room number 228. I could feel the childlike enthusiasm rise in me. As I took in the gardens, the heritage pool, the shekhawati frescoes of the hotel, and the turrets of the castle.

The lunch was a hearty meal of mangodi papad ki sabzi, and besan ki roti.

And then, we had a pleasant surprise! My wife brought me the news that the hotel was location for shooting of a web series by Nikhil Advani, starring Nareesudfin Shah, and Lara Dutta. And she was like, I am going to be watching shooting!

The next day, as expected, was spent watching the shooting. And imagine, my wife asked Raghuvir Yadav for a selfie, and he obliged, the cultured man that he is.

Off we went for a haveli tour, and camel cart ride to the small sand dunes.

Mandawa maybe a small sleepy town today, but it's 70 odd grand havelis tell of the importance of this business centre about 200 years back, when it lay on the silk route. I got the glimpse of first Chambers of commerce of India!

The lunch was of dal bati churma, where the churma was lipsmacking. We did but some puppets as souvenir, and winded off the day.

The next day, our brief sojourn, which gave us big relaxation, was ended. And we left the hotel regretfully.

And next day, it was time for

One is surprised upon entering the compound as the entrance is pretty abysmal . If you are driving as I was is not for a non Indian which I am. The staff was excellent and very attentive. The wedding we attended was well served and was lovely. The food in the our door pub and bar was not good. The chicken burger was very small and a few french fries given. We ordered room service and they sent food from the day before I will say it was a copious amount.
The pool needs to be kept free of pigeons who spoil the pool with there feces and offal. The breakfast was very middling for a hotel billed as 5 stars. The breads very poor.
The building retains its old times charm but needs better cleaning and up keep.
It is alot of money for what is presented.

Mandawa has been called an ‘open art gallery’ and when you visit the town you can see why. Hand painted frescoes decorate walls both inside and outside the buildings.
The well kept fort has beautiful examples of this.
We stayed in the fort in a luxurious room and enjoyed the warm welcome of all the staff.
The food was delicious and we enjoyed a night cap in the most beautiful of bars
A very special place full of culture and art..
We had a very memorable stay and loved every minute.
