Corbett has dozens of resorts, hotels, and lodges. But we chose Camp River Wild after due diligence. It had to be a small boutique place keeping in mind Covid. So just 6 rooms is an ideal place. Besides it was important that the place had to be pet friendly.
Due to heavy traffic we arrived late so had missed the lunch. But the Camp called us regularly to check on our whereabouts, and guided us to the Camp. The moment we arrived, we were offered a satiating welcome drink. Ansariji was personally present. The team immediately showed us to the rooms. And that was followed by delicious and variety of snacks. Mrs Lubna Ansari also met us on arrival to check about our meal preferences. We were at ease within minutes, it seemed we had come back home after a long time.
Sitting by the fire and listening to the wildlife experiences of Ansariji was a delight, and enlightening. Food at the Camp is real special. They have variety, and are flexible with time.
The rooms are very well done, and just what you need in the wild. I was so happy not to see TV's in the room. That gave us time to sit outside and listen to bird calls and even alarm calls of Chital and Sambar deer in the morning and late evening.
We have decided to visit the Camp again and again. Yes, the staff is very courteous, hard working, and prompt.
Well done Lubna and Ansariji.
Left nainital to reach camp river wild resort in jim corbett at PO Mohaan which claimed to have super reviews on makemytrip. Our booking was for 3 nights - 11th june to 13th june (14th june checkout).
In reality as follows
1. A resort with super reviews from makemytrip should have people staying there and should be sold out as its season time. Sadly in the middle of nowhere and only my family there. Yes... 6 rooms and only 1 family.
2. The chef , who cooks comes out in a dirty tshirt and jeans during our lunch time, even the local Chinese guys in mumbai roads dress better . If you claim to be a resort with super reviews make sure you give your staff proper uniform.
3. A resort like yours should make sure that shampoo, soap, bath towels must be kept in the room. In reality no shampoo, only one hand soap. When my family asked for a face towel we were given a floor towel instead. I am amazed at the ratings people give for a resort like this that doesnt know the difference between a floor towel and a face towel.
4. A resort with super reviews must have excellent sanitation. In reality, the entire shower area in the bathroom was dirty with black moss , broken tiles and tiles that get completely clogged and flooded on not even 1 completion of shower.
5. Our family thought that the owner of the resort is a nice man. In reality... read below
I call him a RACIST... he has the cheek and the audacity to tell me that i am from mumbai and all mumbaikars have too much of nakhras and he also says that since i am a muslim he made the mistake of giving me the room. HOW DARE HE COMMENT ON MY RELIGION. THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NONE OF HIS BUSINESS. HE IS HERE TO SELL A SERVICE WHICH IS PATHETIC AND NOT COMMENT ON ANYONES RELIGION.
Makemytrip... seriously on what basis do you even deal with a RACIST like Mr Ansari (owner of camp riverwild).
Makemytrip... on what basis do you give a rating with super reviews for a dead place like camp riverwild???
Makemytrip... have any of you or your employees visited this resort to even know what type of a place it is.
Makemytrip.. this resort needs to be BANNED from your website and also a RACIST like Mr Ansari needs to be expelled from your list of people that you deal with.
I would like to make a special note here that the entire staff of camp riverwild has been amazing and very helpful.
We finally with our money booked 2 nights at another hotel thru your website called acorn getaway resort and spa and are now staying here for 2 nights.
I am also going to be posting this review on other travel portals, on social media sites, your website and to your board of directors. I would request for serious action to be taken and make sure that camp riverwild as well as Mr Ansari both be banned from doing business with makemytrip.
I stayed 3 nights in this special resort . Set high on the river bank the resort is well away from the hustle and bustle which surrounds Corbett N.P. My wooden cottage on stilts was one of just 6 in this large resort , providing privacy and peaceful surroundings . My accommodation was very large with a comfy bed , good fan and hot shower . I enjoyed sitting outside on my balcony often in the company of a friendly camp dog . Tea and biscuits were always available . Varied local food , provided in the circular wooden dining room , was always plentiful and very tasty .
The friendly staff could not do enough to help even fetching me from my room to show me a special bird they had found . A lightning strike the previous day had knocked out the WiFi but staff worked quickly to restore it .
Camp RiverWild is not a just a stay-at place. It's a dream of a family that's given everything to wildlife conservation. And that shows in the way the whole place has been put together. A piece of land that's big enough for a 100 rooms has only 6 aesthetically designed cottages. So make sure you have the number saved in speed dial.
Now the over all experience:
Food- I can drive to this place from Delhi for just a meal. The food is really that good.
Staff : The most hospitable and sweet people you'll see. Their Manager, Pooran, will do everything to arrange whatever it is you need. Say it, and you'll have it.
The place: It's what a place inside a jungle should be. Let's just say the noisiest things here, are the birds. Unless of course, a tiger decides to roar from the other side of the river. But don't let that make you lock yourself in the room. There is power fencing.
The stories ( a very important part of the jungle) : Try and see if you can spend a little time with Mr and Mrs Ansari (the names behind the magic of Camp RiverWild), they know the jungle and its animals better than most.
This place has become my second home. And i would personally like to thank Mr and Mrs Ansari for keeping this place so warm, calm, jungle-like and pet friendly. It makes the distance of 300 kms seem like 3.
The place is a hidden gem. Built across 4 acres of land almost on the Kosi riverbed, this resort would redefine what others call 'river front' as one doesn't have to climb down or walk few meters to reach the river; all you have to do is walk out of the main gate & you will be standing on the river bed. Setup close to Mohan & Chukam village, it is definitely far away from the resort hub in Corbett that lies between Dikhuli & Garjiya. But the drive after Garjiya devi temple gate to the resort is awesome as there is very less population, rivulets running across the road & final drive through the river bed.
Inside, there are 6 decent sized cottages with all basic amenities, a lot of green open space & mangrove to walk around. I stayed in the cottage #6 which is at the farthest corner of the resort. The resort does not have have any cemented wall around, it’s boundaries are marked with barbed fencing to a height of about 3-4 feet only. Mr. Ansari, owner & an active, well known & honoured wild life conservationist in the area, was of the opinion that being very near to the river, the area is frequently visited by various animals like deer, elephants, fox etc. He has deliberately kept the boundaries porous to allow those animals to come in & graze around, thus adding to the charm of the resort. But, this has its own disadvantages as well. I was told that a tusker has been invading the resort regularly over the last few days in search for bamboo & other vegetation. Although nothing happened in the two nights I stayed, but there were evidences all over (2-3 day old elephant dung, broken bamboo & other vegetation, tampered barbed wire). Rather than getting intimidated, I found this most intriguing experience with the unknown factor of a rendezvous with wild life, bang within the resort.
The restaurant is situated in the centre of the resort. The entire staff discourages serving meals in the room, except for beverages & snacks. Breakfast generally has 4-5 items, lunch & dinner have around 8-9 items. Although not a lavish affair, the spread is quite satisfactory. Food is cooked fresh & tastes like home, menu changes with every meal. I found every dish ‘finger licking good’.
If you have time in hand, do spend time with Mr. Ansari who has rich knowledge & experience of corbett & wildlife. I am quite sure, it will be an evening to remember for the rest of your life.
I would love to call it an 'Urban Wilderness'.
