Have you been to Greece before self catering?
Well if you have this is above average in most ways.
Room very large and spacious, we had double and single bed and still loads of room, plus a huge balcony.
Room cleaned at least three times a week, towels changed every other day when we were there.
No pool, but you can use two pools of the hotels next door, literally 30 seconds walk away.
Resort itself still fairly small, but with enough to suit most tastes in terms of quite taverna's or cocktail bars if that takes your fancy.
Five minute walk to beach, but walk through resort and out the other side (12-15 minute walk) for the much better, less crowded beach.
If you do stay here, head towards nearest beach, hang a right for 30 meters, and eat at Fishando, superb fresh sea food.
Just returned from 2 weeks here, me, hubby and our 2 girls, had a 2 bed apartment no 5, it had been a couple of years, since we had been to the lovely Greek Islands and 15 since we had visited Zante.
The apartments have everything you need as per Greek self catering, ie 2 cooking rings, kettle and toaster, we didn't do anything other than a bit of breakfast on a couple of days, but you could do a simple lunch or make a packed lunch quite easily.
Spotlessly clean, beds changed 3 times during stay and towels 4/5 times.
Library area at the end of the 1st floor, where you can swap your books and a mop and broom there too.
On arrival, we paid 90 euros for air con (this is in the bedrooms only) and 10 for a safety deposit box, you will find 6 large bottles of water, I thought these were complimentary ( what a lovely thought!) but was charged 2 euros for them, all the close by apartments sell the 6 bottles for the same price, to save you lugging them back from the supermarket.
Excellent insect nets at all windows and a huge balcony. The maid left the doors unlocked after cleaning, apparently it is very safe there, it did feel safe and I would not hesitate to travel to this resort on my own with my girls.
Everyone we met had been to Alykes many, many times, I can see why, we fell in love with the resort and will be returning again, as mentioned on other reviews, Olympic guests can use the facilities at the Roulla and Clio, Roulla don't have a bar, just pool, so you can drink your own drinks there, we didn't like the Clio and used the panorama opposite, lovely place, with an excellent Greek night on a Saturday, which gets sold out really quickly, we spent a day at the pool, then a day at the beach using the beds at Artemis restaurant, all the beach restaurants, hire out the sun beds and then you can use their toilets etc, average 7 euros for 2 beds and a parasol.
The salt flats in front of the apartments are quite interesting and you walk down a dirt track through the middle of them to get to the resort centre and the beach, less than 10 mins walk, we had temperatures above 40 every day and 35 at night, I did find the resort very casual at night, prob due to the heat!
You will love this resort, we think the best on the island as still typically Greek, with all family owned restaurants, no English people trying to entice you in for a free shot!!!
Finally the views at the back are stunning
My wife and I have been self catering in the greek islands for many years and the last few in this resort . Requested a double bed by email in advance and on arrival , Argiros himself , a very pleasant man welcomed us and showed us to room 4 on the ground floor a high ceilinged , spacious room and despite the heatwave.( 44 in shade most days !) we did not need the air -con at all, a first for my wife and both slept so well on a very comfortable memory foam mattress , unbothered by mozzies due to the mosquito- blinded double glazed doors and windows. A nice spacious balcony to boot . Cleaning every day , sheets and towels changed twice weekly No pool but two opposite we were welcome to use. all in all , very happy with our choice .
Really enjoyed our stay here and the owner Argyrios could not have been kinder. He noticed on our arrival that I have a little walking difficulty and immediately offered to take us to the supermarket in his car to do our 'big arrival shop'. The town and restaurants are about 3/4 mile away so he also offered to drop us off (we of course gave him some petrol money as a thank you).We did walk in most nights but when we went to the neighbouring Alykanas he again did the honours. (taxis and horse drawn carriages are readily available in town--the fare is always 10 Euros).
The apartments are typically Greek --not 4 star but very clean and the beds comfy. I would certainly recommend .There is no pool but you can use the pools at Clio or Roulla Apts just across the street --all very friendly people. The lovely beach is about 10 mins walk via wide path across the old salt flats-- water very shallow and ideal for young children.
Great location BUT
Noisy, lots of noise from neighbouring apartments and hotels.
Cleanliness was not great, false nail on floor, debris under beds, bathroom was a bit gross too...Pillows were like rocks so take your own is a must if you can, the owner could not give extras either.
The owner wasnt entirely friendly, telling us to turn off the bathroom light and such.
He also tried to charge us a ridiculous amount to store our luggage for the afternoon until our coach came, however the amazingly friendly and lovely hotel opposite will allow you to do so for free and use showers and pool too, next time if we go again, we will definitely stay there!
