We spent 2 nts at Windermere in the very cosy Planters room. Hospitality in every sense was stupendous. The food was absolutely fatastic with a very generous variety of Keralite fare. The beds were too comfortable and cozy.
My boys were very excited to cycle and we enjoyed some delightful walks and treks, besides some down time in the cozy library above the Barn. Our guide who led us to the cardamom and coffee plantations was also wonderful. The staff overall and, of course, Sunil ensured our stay was comfortable and more...
Thank you very much and we are sure to return to this pristine location which enjoys the most envious view I presume amongst most properties in the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Highly recommended 👌

I enjoyed my stay here. The grounds are lovely and the room was large and simply furnished. I loved the swimming pool and seemed to be the only guest willing to brave the cold to use it. My only complaint is that one is not given an option to eat dinner elsewhere, and the set price is exorbitant with far too much food served, although it’s very good. One night was okay, but after that I refused and was met with some coldness. Too bad, because I probably would be reluctant to come again just for this one reason.

We stayed for 4 nights and were bowled over by the stunning views, excellent food and attentive staff. Ansel, the on-site naturalist, provided an excellent walk around the cardamom plantation and passed on to the kitchen our love for the local banana fritters, which they surprised us with at tea time.

The room was comfortable and a good size, and we had excellent nights of sleep. The breakfast was plentiful and Keralan lunched delicious. The site is a little away from the main town, and involves a stunning if somewhat bumpy drive. Overall, we had a fantastic time and will be recommending to family and friends.

Munnar is very beautiful and Windermere Estate is a charming place from which to explore the area. It is a working cardamom and coffee plantation with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. Our room was very spacious and clean, but it could do with some refurbishment. Our large balcony overlooked the adjoining tea plantation which was glorious and early morning birdsong was a great way to start the day. Staff are all very helpful and polite and service was excellent.

We can echo the views of others that from our initial welcome through a pleasant few days and on to teh next destination the staff at Windermere did everything possible to mae our stay a pleasure.
We loved our room with a very comfortable bed and a view across the valley. The resturant served very nice meals, the afternoon tea was welcome as was the introduction to tea growing etc.
The pool was lovely but a tad cold for one of us!
We would recommend a climb up the boulder for sunset, spectacular. Probably sunrise too but I couldn't get up that early/
The guided walk was a real bonus too.
If you are considering Windermere I really can't tell you anything offputting.

Questions & answers about the rooms

What would you say is the best room to book
Answer from John W
Jun 2017 |
Hello Sangita, Thank you for your interest in Windermere Estate, Munnar. At our estate we have three type of rooms; Garden, Estate and Planter's room. The distinction in types is broadly based on the size of the rooms, however in each type the styling of spaces are different. The Guest rooms are in 5 buildings spread across 4 acres of land and these spaces are referred to as; Coffee, Vanilla, Cardamom, Tea & Planter's house. In each block you would have 02 rooms in the lower level & 02 rooms in the upper level, given the terrain of the land all rooms are open to ground. The rooms in the lower level are about 400 sq ft and are refereed to as Garden room and the upper level rooms, which are about 600sq ft are the Estate rooms. The suite rooms are called as the Planter's rooms, which are about 900sq ft. There are 02 Planter's rooms, 08 Estate rooms & 08 Garden rooms.Only the Estate & Planter's rooms can be provided with an extra bed. To give you my personal preference in each type; In Garden rooms my favourite space is the one in tea house which has a sit out and a private garden area. In estate rooms there is a room overlooking the tea garden, and also the one in the coffee house; which is a room in split level and is the largest space in the category, although you must know this space dose not have an open sit out like the others in the category. Planters room enjoys a large space, view of the mountains giving nice view of sunrise. I hope i have been able to give you an impression on our accommodation spaces, do write to us if you require to have any further details on the property Best wishes John
