Set amidst a forest, this is a secluded onsen hotel with amazing facilities... they have a giant swimming pool, indoor and outdoor onsen, onsen for familities, gym, 3 dining locations.... hotel is definitely old, carpet and wall paper needing dire improvements. Rooms are sizable with attached toilets, no attached bath. View is great and air fresh. Recommended for 1-2 days stay where you would have some time to enjoy the facilities. We were just passing the night and it was a bit of a waste...

Dear livresse-sama,

Thank you very much for staying at Kuroyon Royal Hotel.
I'm full of sorry, reading the reviews from you.
The room you stayed in this time was a room [with no bath with a toilet.]
The peeled wallpaper was arranged to repair immediately.

Over 80% of the rooms have a bath.
There is no in high position as a room that you stayed this time,
but there is also a spread of your room where you can enjoy views of the forest facing the golf course.
If you look at the forest from a large glass window or terrace,
you will be able to spend a wonderful time, such as meeting encounters with antelope.

Please come again, and enjoy the delicious French or Japanese cuisine.
We ara waiting for you to stay at our hotel again.

Thank you.

I had a one night stay at the Kuroyon last week - it is the perfect place to spend the night before a trip across the Tateyama - Kurobe alpine route (the hotel is well catered to provide all the info you need).

The hotel is huge and we had the biggest room of our whole trip to Japan - it had two double beds in it (American style). The hotel was quiet when we went (midweek) so we really had the place to ourselves.

The hotel has a beautiful spa - not ultramodern - but very clean and a large indoor swimming pool. It also has a shop onsite which is quite quaint.

We ate in the Western restaurant in the evening fancying a change from Japanese cuisine and the fish we were served was very well cooked - and would be a good plate of food even if served in a mid-range London restaurant.

If you are planning on doing the trans-alpine route you could do a lot worse than staying here the night before. I highly recommend.

We are a family with two teens driving through the mountains from Tokyo to the Japanese sea. Kuroyon has been a luxury stop on our way. Incredibly large rooms with all the things you get to expect from the better japan hotels: kimonos, large bathroom with toiletries, kimonos, living room and (empty) fridge.
You will need a car if you stay here because it is secluded and 10 min drive from the village. Hotel has an excellent french style restaurant, maybe a bit pricy at 15.000 for a 4 course menu.
We were 1 week to early to enjoy the swimming pool and 9 hole golf course. They are Only opened as of 3rd week of april.
Altough rudimentary english, staff is incredibly friendly and ready to assist you with anything you ask for.
